My son has been accepted by UCF for the fall, but is still waiting to hear from FSU (decisions come out March 17). I am wondering if we should go ahead and enroll him at UCF and file the housing agreement in order for him to get decent housing if he does decide to go there, or if we can wait on this until we hear from FSU. Any thoughts?

im kinda in the same situation too. i was accepted to both ucf and fsu, but im waiting to hear back from the music programs. ucf doesnt guarantee housing for everyone, so i went ahead and did the $250 deposit so i’d get some kind of housing. if i decide not to go to ucf, i think i get $100 back.

Ariel, my understanding is that if you cancel by May 1, not only do you forfeit your $250 deposit, but they ALSO charge you another $100. After May 1, the penalty goes up to something like $250. I couldn’t believe it, so I called and spoke to a lady named Gloria in the housing office who said that yes, they charge a penalty, even if you wind up not going there. Please let me know if you find out otherwise, OK?

yea, i think i may have read it wrong. i just didnt want to take the risk of applying late and not having any housing. im sure theres plenty of apartments that are even a lot nicer than the dorms there, but i didnt wanna miss out on the experience of dorming at ucf.

You might have read wrong, you lose your entire deposit only if you cancel AFTER May 1st. If you do it before you still get part of it back.

OK, I called again and spoke with somebody else. Yes, if you cancel by May 1, you get all but $100 of your deposit back. THAT makes sense, but it is so totally NOT what the woman yesterday told me.
