UF housing

Best dorms/suites/apts at UF? Does anyone have any information? The website is pretty vague and it's hard to find pictures of any interiors. I can't find any forums on it, either. The only way I can narrow it down now is by A/C and privacy. Any advice/info would be great, thanks!

Hey, I just asked this question in the UF livejournal community. Here is the thread with my questions: <a href="http://community.livejournal.com/ufstudents/1515627.html%5B/url%5D">http://community.livejournal.com/ufstudents/1515627.html</a></p>

Here is a thread from 2004 (old, but can still be referenced): <a href="http://community.livejournal.com/ufstudents/501931.html%5B/url%5D">http://community.livejournal.com/ufstudents/501931.html</a></p>

I am back with Amandatraci. I read those and was more confosed than before. How about more input here from current students.

I will type more later, but I am currently studying for a couple of test I have this week.

Murphree in my opinion is the best dorm, but it have to get into since it got AC last summer. Currently rooms in Murphree are all filled. Its going to be hard for a freshman to get a spot, unless a soph or junior cancels their contract over the summer. Murphree is also the dorm I wouldnt reccomend for freshman's, propably 85% of the residents are second years and up and how the sections are set up, its hard to make friends.

Very social with many greeks: Broward (ALOT), Rawlings, Simpson, Jennings?

Any dorms your want to ask about? Starting summer? or fall?

Which dorms have a/c and NO MOLD?... Which dorms have suites? Hate the down the hall shower thing...........

I am interested in dorms like Graham, Simpson, Trusler, etc.. Are those "less popular" meaning i would probably get placed in a double in one of those if it were my first choice?

does anyone know anything about this "residential learning communities" thing I got in the mail?

Also, I was wondering what hall would be best for an incoming freshman. I don't want to end up stuck in a corner somewhere!

oh yea, and where is the easiest place to find parking?

i think i'm giving up on trying to get a good dorm. gainesville has AWESOME off campus apartments, and in many of them, you get your own bedroom and private bathroom regardless of how many roommates you have, and you have your own lease so you don't have to worry about anyone else's rent. some are as cheap as $450 a month, which is only slightly higher than on campus housing. i dunno. does anyone know something i don't, because it sort of seems too good to be true. especially since gainesville has an awesome, FREE, bus system, that solves the problem of being off campus.

am i under the wrong impression, or is an off campus apt a good idea?

i just don't want to deal with mold, crappy ac, sharing bathrooms, etc.

A friend of ours whose daughter attended UF leased an apartment as you have described and apparently liked it.

One potential slight drawback to living off-campus is that I believe the on-campus students get the best parking passes.

There is nothing that compares to living on campus your freshman year in terms of meeting people. I don't believe that you get the true feel for a school until you have lived on campus.

to whoever said that a sophomore or junior has to cancel over the summer to get into Murphree...spots for freshman have nothing to do with how many sophomores or juniors are in there, I don't think. They set aside specific rooms for the lottery for students who are in the upperclassman lottery. most of the rooms still go to freshmen.

Kirst

Can you tell me which dorms have suites? Which dorms are the hardest to get into for freshman? I would hat to do selection of dorms that I don't have any chance of getting.

You can go to the housing website to see which dorms have suites.. <a href="http://www.housing.ufl.edu/housing/Facilities_rates_fall.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.housing.ufl.edu/housing/Facilities_rates_fall.htm</a>
