UF or GT for industrial/systems engineering ?? pls help lol im a mess

Hi, I’m a hs senior trying to decide where to attend this fall but can’t visit campuses. I have been accepted to UF honors and research scholars programs and am instate with bright futures and a presidential scholarship. I have also been admitted to GTech for fall with out-of-state tuition but it would be nice to get out of FL and try something new (aside from all of the on-paper, academic benefits of GT). My family has some money put away for school but if I go to UF then I can save it for grad school, what do y’all think? I’m planning to study industrial/systems engineering but might switch it up (idk chemical? electrical? nuclear?) or even plain ole business or finance. (i know I’m all over the place) Let me know what you think and if I can clarify my situation at all. Thank you

I’m also waitlisted at Duke if anyone thinks that is worth waiting around on? But still till have to enroll somewhere May 1.

Some things to think about:

What is the process to switch engineering majors at UF and GT? I know that at the University of Illinois it can be difficult to go from one to another especially if the other one is “oversubscribed”. Where you accepted into the systems/industrial engineering major specifically - or is the acceptance to the school of engineering and you pick your major later? And what is the process for staying in the major? The University of Wisconsin has minimum GPAs for each major year over year.

What is the price difference between the two? In my mind, that would be the overriding factor in the decision.

How far is UF from your hometown? I fully understand wanting to get away from home (my daughter went 1200 miles away - although we did make her apply to our state flagship which happened to be down the street) but is getting out of Florida really worth the cost difference?

you’ve hit my dilemma right on with the cost vs minor benefits. I have been accepted to the Industrial/Systems major specifically at Tech and I believe it is the most competitive of those I am potentially interested in, and your first change of major is ‘easy’ either way. At UF I doubt I will have trouble meeting requirements for any changing of major I end up wanting. The cost difference is probably 40k a year, so pretty significant, but if I have a scholarship or income during grad school then not as bad bc I have to spend my “school money” somewhere eventually. thanks for the insight

$160k is quite a bit of money.

You aren’t certain about your major, so I say save your money for now and go to UF. If you end up needing an extra year because you change your major, you will be able to easily afford that.

wow thanks
