I’m applying for political scene in the fall. I have a 3.44 and it’s most likely to go up to 3.48 or 3.5 (depends on how well I do in stats) I was originally a nursing major but changed my major so I’m around 87 credits. I have a mix of A’s and B. I’m worried because in my main classes that focus on politics I’ve gotten a B. What are my chances?
@emilyythestudent Hey, I’m applying for poli sci in the fall too! Good luck to you!
As for your chances: from what I’ve been told, poli sci isn’t really that competitive of a major to get into. People are all clamoring to get into engineering, nursing, & business, but not poli sci especially. This means that it really isn’t too difficult to be admitted as long as you meet the requirements. With your GPA, there should be no issue, as they are generally looking for at least a 2.5 GPA. A lot of people are admitted in the 2.5 - 3.0 range, so if you can maintain your 3.44-3.5, I think you’ll have a really good chance.
However, you said you’re around 87 credits. Is that before or after the completion of this current semester (Spring 2019)? Because if you’ll have 87 after this semester, then you’re fine, but if you already have 87 & your number of credits will go over 90 after this semester, then that could be bad (or, at the very least, potentially not good) because if you were to be classified as a senior at the time you’d enroll, then that might negatively impact your chances with the CLAS Admissions Committee (as evidenced by this post on here from just last week: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-florida/2133081-transfer-rejection.html).
