Current high school senior admitted to the three aforementioned institutions.
I came to this forum to ask people with experience (whatever that may be, not gonna be picky)

Does prestige matter for med UG?
How annoying is the MCAT?
Other q's you guys think need to be answered (im not so sure)

Money isn't the biggest issue (although it is to a large extent, but not enough that i cant squeeze out for the remainder of NYU)- of course, i'd rather graduate debt free.

NYU Scholars is the honors program there (top 5% of the school)... comes with 25k scholarship (lewis rudin), first hit at classes, special advising, and a bunch of other good stuff. The major con here is the debt i'm adding....

Sophie Davis is... well, Sophie Davis. No MCAT. Pure medicine.
I'm not sure i'm gonna enjoy the experience though (i may be completely wrong on that one, just a hunch).

Macaulay Hunter is awesome cause it's free everything with free dorming (which is fun). My bro goes there, but the class sizes are huge and it seems like everyone there wants to go into med. And it's still Hunter, no matter what Macaulay does for it....

I'm leaning toward Sophie right now. pleaseeee add ideas. thanks :)

So, at Sophie you have guaranteed admittance as long as you get the GPA? What is the school like? Is it all work and no play?

I’m leaning towards Macaulay.

It sounds like NYU would require additional loans, so that’s not good for a future med student.

Sophie Davis if I remember correctly is only for future primary care doctors. If you want to be a primary care doctor than go for it.

Hunter is a city university so its considered worse than a state university.

I’d go to NYU honors, if you are paying 25K for it and you can afford it, its a much better option. Plus you get all the benefits of being in an honors program at a great school.

yes that is correct. it’s reputedly all work and no play, but i’ve also heard (and witnessed in a way) from students that it’s not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. very small class size though- 70 kids.

here are the schools that cooperate with sophie.
- Albany Medical College
- Dartmouth Medical School
- New York Medical College
- New York University School of Medicine
- The State University of New York (SUNY) Health Science Center at Brooklyn (Downstate)
- SUNY at Stony Brook School of Medicine

i think you’re right about nyu.

why macaulay?

they say its only for primary care, but there are many other options.

i can’t really afford nyu- i can try, but it’ll most likely land me in debt, and as mom2collegekids stated, that’s not a good position to be in for a med student.
plus med school is very difficult to get entrance into nowadays.

i just found out that as an incentive for sophie my parents will buy me a car (instead of dorming- which is very expensive at sophie)

deff go for Sophie Davis, theres nothing to think about. My friend and i was in the same situation as you 2 years ago and we both wanted to do medical. I ended up chosing Sophie and she chose Maca.! The benefits of Sophie is that you have a lot of connections and for medical school you can get the best recommendations. My friend on the other hand went for macalay cuz it was free and stuff and now she is regretting it because she is having a hard time finding a place to intern for like medical and stuff and thing that sucks is that macaulay teachers forget you which is a problem when you need reccomendations. hope you chose sophie, see you there

@Afshan16 I was recently accepted. Are you still liking the school?
