So a friend of mine wants to know if UGA is a party school or if its strong academically

It's both- it depends entirely on how you approach it and what choices you make as an individual. There's a strong academic component that's focused mainly in the honors program and there's a big party system focused on downtown and Greek life. The academics are improving every year along with the quality of the freshman class.

Kiplinger's magazine ranks UGA #6 100 on a list of public schools offering 'stellar' education at reasonable cost. The first five are as follows:

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

University of Florida

University of Virginia

College of William and Mary

New College of Florida

Not bad company to be in.

#6 put of 100

UGA is ranked # 6 OUT of 100 on Kiplinger's list. Sorry for the bad posts!

Kiplinger uses strange ways to rank. Its too heavily weighted towards cost. Also I was mad because they didn't include private universities.

Well the study is in a Finance magazine. The frame of the rankings was Stellar education at PUBLIC Schools that were a value. It's just one way to measure.

Wow, #6??? Nice! Go UGA :)

elizabethtown, when are you from. you are very into ga so i assume that is where you are going? did you consider any other schools?
