What are the best dorms for UGA freshmen to live in?
I got admitted yesterday and there's a large possibility I will be attending next year, so I obviously need to get on this.

I've been to the campus probably 20 times and have seen the dorms, and all I know at this point is that I don't want to live in Creswell, Brumby, or Russel.

An opinion would be much appreciated :)

My daughter lives in Reed so I can give you a little perspective about that one:
Pros:
Central location;Close to MLC and Tate. My daughter was able to walk to most of her classes and did not have to ride the bus.
Each room has its own bathroom; no community bathroom
Quiet (could be a con if you want a very social dorm)

Cons:
No dining hall close
Near the stadium so gets noisy and crowded game day
You have to move your car game day weekend
Costs more than the high rise dorms

I visited Myers and stayed in Creswell for two nights. Here are the pros and cons I can come up with, along with other bits of advice I got from students currently living on-campus.

Myers: Updated. Construction is going to affect the Myers Community for the 2012-2013 year, though. The Honors kids are there, so it builds a great sense of community if you are in Honors. If not, you might want to think of the high-rises…

Creswell: The rooms are smaller, but depending on how you arrange your things, it can be quite cozy. Once you make a friend on the hall, it’s really cool because your room just becomes an extension of hers. There is a lot of interaction. Community bathrooms are clean - if you use it at the right time. From my experience, 3am was when it was at its best and 11pm was not so hot. They play music in the bathrooms, too - I guess to avoid “that awkward moment when” you’re using the toilet and other people are listening…

Brumby: An all-girls dorm, but not nearly as bad as you’d think it is. I didn’t see anything wrong with it to begin with, but I guess some people don’t like the idea of sharing a high-rise with that many females.

Soule: Don’t do it. Haha the people I talked to on campus said that it is very quiet, the rooms are much older, and you don’t get the real “freshman experience,” since most freshmen are in the high rises. But if you don’t mind a quiet dorm, go for it.

*Snelling is a really great dining hall ,so you may want to be near there
*Creswell apparently experiences a lot of fire drills…which can be a pain if you’re on the 6th floor
*ECV is mostly for upper-class students. You may want to wait until your 2nd-4th years to live there…live it up with all the freshmen first! You can’t get into the high rises after your first year
*Any dorms near Sanford are going to be uber hectic on Game Day. If you like that kind of hype, cool. If you’ll be stressed out, reconsider.
*The Orbit is the bus line that picks up students from Tate. It is EXTREMELY packed on weekdays…like no standing room. So if your dorm is walking distance from Tate, that may benefit you. Avoid the crowd
