Last year my D received a small merit award in March. I believe it was the “Classic City” award or “Classic”… it was $1500-$2000. Her friend received the same. I believe it was used to attract high stat students. (We were full pay.) So it is possible you could hear about merit later. I believe David Graves states this on the blog… that awards are issued through March/April.
ETA: We are GA residents so my D already had free tuition through Hope/Zell. This merit was in addition to that.
My son at Uga is a senior so back in 2018 we went last week of January for admitted student days. I was really hoping we’d hear something soon. I don’t want to wait til March or April.
Funny, I was trying to be quiet. GA high schools have the most ridiculously inflated GPA metrics in the universe. Your point is the right point. Some of these high schools have 5.0 scales for unweighted!!!
100% not a rejection!! Do not think that at all! I think she needs to send in her mid-year grades. David Graves, who works at admissions at UGA, writes a super transparent blog. Check it out, it will make you feel better, and you can understand why they defer so many - they just need more time to do a holistic review. Hang in there and good luck to her!
Ah, yes I know what you are talking about. I think only a small group of RD will hear in Feb - they will be very high stats applicants. I think almost all EA deferrals get notified in March. I know when you are waiting time moves in slow motion!
I know a kid who was an EA applicant who was notified mid Feb a couple years ago. No change except he submitted fall grades. We were all kind of shocked he didn’t get in EA (he is now at a. T20 private) so maybe he just fell thru the cracks. So it is possible but vast majority are RD applicants who are very high stat and get in solely on an academic review.
A fiend of mine had both her kids get in during the February round after they were deferred EA. The only thing that they had different at that time was that they took the ACT again and had a big jump in their scores (specifically English and Math).
Not sure if this has been answered - but does anyone know if merit offer might still come? My S22 (OOS PA) was accepted back in Nov but only has received financial aid basic info, no scholarships. May affect his decision as he’s getting merit scholarships from other schools.
Same with us. OOS, accepted in first round of notifications, but no merit aid mentioned in recent financial aid letter. Hoping there’s a later round of aid in March. If not, UGA will have to be crossed off our list.
The UGA Admissions Blog had an update today that included confirmation scholarships will be awarded through the end of March. We are in the same boat, OOS and accepted in Nov to UGA and the HC but no scholarship as of yet…
D was admitted with the Friday batch. Can anyone speak to the application process sophomore year to Terry? What grades would get you passed over for first choice major? ACT score needed? It looks like a college application process all over again. What percentage do not get their first choice major or even their second choice? I’m suggesting D concentrate on the direct admit schools she got in or at least one with where, if you meet the gateway GPA in pre-major classes, you are in. She did not apply to the Honors College, unfortunately. I know she can apply freshman year-what do the stats look like for that process also? Any insight? TIA
What major is she interested in? The competitive ones are accounting, finance, and MIS. Most students get their first choice, though I don’t know the exact percentage. The application process is not difficult. And if a student shying away from applications, Terry is probably not a good fit as many of the orgs and best opportunities are competitive and require an application and interview. It’s similar at many business schools.
Terry is one of the only non-direct business schools that I recommend because the likelihood of not getting first choice major is not high.
She is interested 1. supply chain, 2. international business. At UGA would apply to Mgmt, with a supply chain area of emphasis, and probably an international business co-major.
Her chances of not getting that major is practically 0. Average grades are all that’s needed for the less competitive majors like management. The international business co-major is competitive, but it’s not important. It’s only a few classes. My DD dropped it in favor of a double major and masters.
