Ugh, stupid Rice.

They got my hopes up when they sent me an email.... I thought it was a likely letter.
Then when I opened it, this was in it...

Great News! Rice seniors Faheem Ahmed and Anish Patel won the mtvU "Oscar Correspondent Contest."

Faheem and Anish are now in Hollywood preparing for their debut on the red carpet tonight.

Join our celebration by watching their prize-winning video and tune in tonight to see them at the Oscars.

Who knew being a premed at Rice could be so much fun!

seriously, they shouldn't do these kinda things to us :/

Awwww... =[

But go Rice seniors Faheem Ahmed and Anish Patel!

I thought that too!! lol

lol the subject explicitly said RICE OWLS GO TO OSCARS. I CAN totally see though how in all the excitement of seeing Rice Admission, you wouldn't notice that. Seems like something I would do, to be honest haha

At least they think enough of you to send you the email.

To an impartial outside observer it looks like "less than a likely letter" but "a long way from a rejection".

This email could be construed as wooing behavior. They like you, havn't quite made up their minds yet, and do not want you to bond with another institution.

Yeah All I saw was that it was from Rice Admissions...

i got that too and i , at first, said HOLY **** MY LIKELY LETTER HAS ARRIVED! but thanks Rice Admissions break my precious heart.... TEAR

@BigG

woah over analysis there... they just send it to everyone who applied. a lot of other colleges send this type of emails, especially caltech (they send like 1 a week about the most random stuff).

wow, looks like many people did this...now I'm kinda glad the first thing I saw was the subject. Otherwise, I'd be a little heartbroken too...haha

</3 I'm ricestruck

Bravo to Rice....my son was utterly charmed by this email....the video was so very ...in keeping with the spirit and wit of the Rice we saw in August. He was in his tux ready to go work/volunteer for the Oscar Party in our local historic film theatre when the email arrived...so I think the timing was perfect. He is a huge film studies buff..

I, of course, am happy to know he will be among new friends somewhere next year where many students and profs love to discuss films, although I did ask him to give me a two minute call next year during the Oscars from whereever he will be! I will miss him and all of his opinions and enthusiasms!

Yes, Bravo to Rice. Regardless of its ultimate decision, it is a nice gesture/technique on the part of Rice to stay connected with its applicant pool.

Hmm.. I posted a thread about me not receiving any contact from Rice at all... and I never received this e-mail. I applied by the deadline but I have not received even ONE e-mail. I hope they respond to my e-mail inquiry soon...
