Ugliest Campuses and Prettiest Campuses

Please check out UC Boulder (Italian Villa architecture anyone? So beautiful and cozy against an amazing mountainous backdrop-beautiful!)

LoonLake: Which University of Minnesota campus did you visit? I like the one in Duluth.

The one in Minneapolis. I didnā€™t even know there was one in Duluth haha.

The prettiest is definitely Pepperdine. The ugliest campus Iā€™ve been on is Tennessee. Itā€™s just cement everywhere with very little grass for laying in.

Iā€™m going to add Auburn simply because I do not like them.

A number of years ago, the American Institute of Architects asked their members to vote for the most attractive collection of buildings in the country. First place was the University of Virginia. Second place was Rockefeller Center.

The running joke at UVa was: when a tourist asks directions, tell them ā€œIts the red brick building, with the white columns, you canā€™t miss it.ā€

Drexel University usually is nominated for ugliest campus, although it has improved from 25 years ago. People say SUNY Albany is ugly, but I havenā€™t seen it.

I agree that Dickinson College in Carlisle PA has a beautiful campus.

I was very disappointed with Georgetownā€™s architecture (that opinion has absoluted nothing to do with the fact that they rejected by son).

Penn Stateā€™s main campus has great new buildings, plus first rate landscaping.

Ugliest- Florida A and M University. Its a historic school so a lot of the buildings are old. In 2011 theyā€™re only now fixing up some of the dorms. All of the dorms are pretty much falling apart.

Prettiest- Florida State University. Looks amazing when you see it from up front.

Many people will disagree with me, but the campus that I visited and liked the least was Tufts. I wasnā€™t a huge fan of Duke, either, but I know Iā€™m in the minority there. I actually think that UNC-Chapel Hill has one of the most beautiful campuses around.

SUNY Albanyā€™s campus is actually kind of impressive. Itā€™s kind of a modernist take on Roman colonnades and such, and itā€™s also very concrete-heavyā€¦ take it how you will. Some people might find it ugly, some people think itā€™s artistic.

I canā€™t say what the ugliest campus Iā€™ve ever seen is. MIT looked pretty ugly from what I remember, but I didnā€™t see much. Amherst looked very ā€œMassachusetts colonialā€ in an overbearing kind of way.

I liked Yale and Princetonā€™s campuses the most. They are probably the most classically beautiful. My favorite and the most hilarious campus is UChicago. Knowing itā€™s meant to look centuries old and knowing itā€™s only about a hundred years old, okay, well, I find it funny. The gargoyles and random faces on the walls are a lot of lulz as are the battlements, the Oxford reference, and the purposely overgrown ivy. And I donā€™t know, the contrast between the hardcore Gothic architecture and the rest (including a main library of the Brutalist style, which means it looks kind of like an alien fortress), is uhā€¦ jarring? Ironic? Yeah, our campus is pretty hipster.

The most stunning campus Iā€™ve seen is Vassar (too bad the town is not)
The most stair climbing Iā€™ve been to is Boston College.
The most transformed Iā€™ve been to is TCU - nearly completely rebuilt in 4 years.

I think Chapman, USC, UC Santa Cruz, Cal, and Columbia are all gorgeous.

CSU Fullerton, CSU Fresno, CSU Bakersfield - basically the vast majority of CSUs I think are hideous. Westmont looks ugly, too.

One of the most beautiful definitely has to be Indiana University - Bloomington. I currently attend the school and know of its beauty year round. Itā€™s the most beautiful in the fall and summer in my opinion. Spring is a bit iffy because there are trees that are in full bloom while others are still a bit dead, so summer is when all of the trees are green. There are so many treesā€¦ more treesā€¦ and more trees. Itā€™s just very green around the campus and the campus itself is a beauty. The memorial union is spectacular as is other gothic architecture made with Indiana limestone. The winter thoughā€¦ the campus looks dead because all of the trees are dead. lol Donā€™t visit during the winter! Downtown right next to the university is beautiful as well!

I shall take photos before I leave for the summer!

Iā€™m hoping to transfer to NYU so I know that I will be missing this absolutely beautiful campus.

Vassar is like a fairytale.

Occidental and Carleton are also pretty nice.

Didnā€™t really like Swarthmore.

ugliest: university of louisville, prettiest: idk why i think it but i think university of tennesee

Ugliest- SUNY Purchase
Prettiest- USC

Happened to be my top two schools. Iā€™m going with USC :D

UCLA has a very beautiful campus. Well-maintained, with Italian Renaissance-style buildings (such as Royce Hall & Powell) blending in with newer buildings, amidst a backdrop of trees and hills. Spacious with lots of green!
Occidental College is also nice ([Occidental College Virtual Campus Tour](http://classic.oxy.edu/welcome/tour/index.htm)).

And of course, the views are just breahttaking at Pepperdine University ([Google Images](http://www.google.com/imgres?q=pepperdine+university&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&tbm=isch&tbnid=Z4X6WlN2iWJGyM:&imgrefurl=http://www.hereandtherewithpatandbob.com/2010/04/04/malibu-pepperdine-university/&docid=wCkVo6A6w6u3GM&w=1024&h=768&ei=-mhJTojWEM3PiALuu_jVAQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=334&vpy=271&dur=3125&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=173&ty=114&page=1&tbnh=133&tbnw=180&start=0&ndsp=12&ved=1t:429,r:5,s:0&biw=1024&bih=610)).

I think many of the Southern California colleges have an inherent edge owing to Californiaā€™s coastal location and the perfect climate (green and mild all year round).

I havenā€™t seen many campuses, but of the ones I have, Iā€™d say that UT (Tenn.) is kinda ugly, and Valpo is beautiful, especially the chapel.

Pretty: Holy Cross, Amherst, Bowdoin, UNH, WPI

Ugly: SUNY Purchase, RIT

Ithaca is the only modern architecture Iā€™ve ever seen done right.

Sent from my DROIDX using CC App

University of Miami is definitely the pretty oneā€¦ i mean COME ON itā€™s Miami!!

Beautiful: Princeton, Columbia, UMiami, Duke, UNC, UConn

Nice: Lehigh, Yale, TCNJ

Eh: Penn, Harvard, BU

Eww: Brandeis, Rowan, Drexel, MIT, UDelaware, UMaryland

UVa rated #1 in recent architecture mag.
