Ugliest Campuses and Prettiest Campuses

I haven’t seen very many, but I have to say…

Prettiest: UCSD, UC Berkeley (although I hate the city of Berkeley)
Ugliest: Cal Poly SLO, UNLV

From the colleges I’ve visited:

Ugliest: Clemson (though many people disagree)
Prettiest: High Point University, which is where I’m attending this Fall :)

university of portland has a very beautiful campus

Vassar is undoubtedly the most beautiful college campus. As for ugly- none of the UC’s are that good looking, imo.

USC as prettiest? Definitely not with the area that it’s located in. A lot of my friends and I use USC to laugh at when talking about ugly campuses. I’ve visited USC several times and each time came with the same impression.

I dislike Duke’s campus, too much stone, it just feels cold to me…

Northwestern is gorgeous, especially since it’s on the lake.

Pretty: Vassar, Holy Cross, UVA,Elon
Not So Pretty: Bates, Brandeis,UMass Amherst

I live a 10 minute bike ride from there…you’ve got to be joking. The bluff is nice, but it’s the main draw of the prettiness of the campus. The layout is so-so.

Univ of Southern California: The campus itself isn’t bad at all; in fact, it looks like your typical American college. But the location certainly is scary and dangerous.

The UCs have great campuses (UCLA, UCSC, UCSB, and UC Davis, in particular) and so do some of the (surprise! surprise!) Cal States such as Sonoma, San Luis Obispo, and Pomona. Pepperdine and Occidental are definitely up there, too, along with Loyola Marymount, University of San Diego, and the University of San Francisco.

I think the California schools are generally beautiful as they take good care of their campuses. It also doesn’t hurt that they have great weather - certainly no winter dreariness there!

Of the schools I visited, I thought that Cornell, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, and Middlebury were the most beautiful. The University of Chicago has some lovely buildings but on the whole I did not like the look and feel of the campus. The ugliest campus I visited was – by far – Claremont McKenna. I was expecting it to be really beautiful because it’s in California, but it looked sort of cheap and dingy overall, I felt. Surrounding schools like Pomona and Scripps, however, are gorgeous.

UC Santa Cruz is simply stunning.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the campus of Drexel…very gray and cold vibe. Texas A&M isn’t so beautiful, but not that bad; it’s OK.

The prettiest campus i’ve seen is University of Washington, Penn State (my school lol), Penn, IU-Bloomington, and Yale.

Smith, Amherst and Mount Holyoke are gorgeous!

UMass, BU, and Hampshire are ugly

The new President of Drexel U. in Phila. says he wants to make improvements to the appearance of the campus a very high priority. They just bought a chunk of land nearby and opened up a big new bio building that will probably win many architectural awards. Over the years, Drexel often showed up on the list of ugliest campuses.

I have a way of thinking every campus I visit is pretty… haha.

But the prettiest have to be William & Mary, Haverford, Kenyon, Brown, Yale, and Pomona.

I find it so funny how a college can be on one person’s pretty list and on another’s ugly list.

Pretty: Dickinson, Mercyhurst, URichmond, Hobart

Ugly: SUNY Binghamton, Drexel, Cortland

Indiana has a pretty cool campus.

Prettiest: Dartmouth, UVA, William and Mary, UNC
Ugliest: SUNY Albany, UMass Amherst, Brandeis, Drexel

What do you think of Johns Hopkins’ campus? Just visited today, wasn’t too impressed but I haven’t seen many others in order to compare.
