Hello!
I am a current high school senior and I would very much appreciate some help in making my college decision. I go to one of the most competitive high schools in the Houston metro area, so my weighted GPA is a 4.07 while unweighted is a 3.49. I took 11 AP classes and 12 AP exams, I have a 32 on my ACT.
I got into UH Honors for their Honors Biomedical Science Major, and I got into TAMU for their Public Health major. I am looking to doing pre-med and going to medical school in the future. I am not sure which school is the better option for med school and for me to get a higher GPA. I also got accepted into UT CAP, UT Dallas, Boston University, and Northeastern University.
I infer from the reference to your “most competitive” high school you are implying that you would have had a much higher GPA had you attended a less competitive high school.
I am not completely familiar with the type of student UH Honors attracts, but I would think that it would be full of students from some of the “most competitive high schools in the Houston metro area”.
As far as A&M goes, I can ASSURE you that you will be completely surrounded by students from the “most competitive” high schools from Houston, DFW, Austin, San Antonio, etc.
You seem motivated and will certainly find the right spot for you. Find a place where you feel happy (academically and socially) and where you can thrive. With the schools on your list, you will be swimming with the sharks no matter where you attend. Hopefully, your competitive high school has prepared you well.
It is a simple formula for medical school… make excellent grades and score well on the MCAT. Ultimately, medical schools want to see how well YOU did in school not how competitive your fellow students are.
