So, I just had the great pleasure of reading through my already submitted application and noticing how I SOMEHOW have 3 words missing from the main 500-word essay, even though I had proofed it like fifty times (dang last-minute revisions). I probably uploaded/copy+pasted an unfinished version. The missing words kind of disrupt the flow of the essay, as one is a missing "to" and the other two are a noun+article. How badly do you think this will be looked upon? I emailed the admissions office about this slip-up already...

What's funny is that I never make this type of bonehead error, but it has finally crept up on something important. :-(

I dont think the adcoms will look down on you just 'cos of a small error like that. I think they would be able to figure out that a noun or a preposition is missing. Dont worry! :) And if you're still very worried you could always mail them.... :)

Well, you said you uploaded it right? Whenever I uploaded a document onto the MIT application, I clicked the preview pdf of my entire application, and I, too, noticed that sometimes a word was missing or an apostrophe was missing even though I had them in my original essay.

The site itself said that if you choose to upload a document, you're at risk of having some formatting and spelling errors in your essay, but you shouldn't worry about it. So, I think it's fine. I wouldn't worry about it.
