Uh-oh... I think my counselor may have goofed.

At my school, counselors send out everything... recs with transcripts. One of my teachers did not give the rec to me- he gave it straight to my counselor after I asked him to give it to ME because I wanted to keep everything together.

I have reasonable belief, that I won't bore anyone with, that my couneslor did not realize that the recs were personalized. They began with "To Whom It May Concern," but in the body of the rec itself it specified the particular colleges.

I am VERY worried that my counselor sent the recs out randomly, not checking to see if the school's matched up. Will this hurt my admissions decision? Should I call the schools and explain the situation to them? I don't want to BLAME my counselor, since that'd seem immature, but I also don't want to not get into a school because of an error I couldn't control at the time.

ALSO (a bit random)- does anyone know if the 'ranking' form NEEDS to be sent in? My counselor sent out the only copy that the aforementioned teacher filled out, and I was planning to make copies of it for each school. And after all this, I'd rather just send out another teacher's recommendation, but she never filled out the form. Is it vital that the form gets filled out, or will a written recommendation be sufficient?

That's awful!! I would talk to your counselor to see if they sent the letteres out to the wrong college or not. I don't think the colleges will hold it against you in teh same way as if you wrote the wrong college name in an essay, but I would email the admissions office and see what they say. I don't know what 'ranking' form you are talking about though. Is it part of the common app? If it is, I would assume all the schools need to get it.
