Should I apply? if so, do I stand a chance? also, what is the financial aid like at Smith? (and while i'm hear, what about chances at Mount Holyoke as well.. anyone care to comment?)

CA resident
Unweighted GPA: 3.45ish (i'm not sure)
Weighted: 3.84
Rank: 6/450 as of last semseter.. dont know what my cummalitve rank is
SAT II: Bio-m 720, LIt-590, Spanish-620
SAT I: 470m, 660 r, 700 r (retaking in october. Hoping to get the math score about 550)

Good EC's. not many but committed to about 2 really major ones. Mostly volunteering and leadership

I'm pretty sure both are 100% need met schools, so they have great financial aid!

I think both of those schools are matches for you. MoHo doesn't even require test scores so you don't have to worry about that too much for them. You fall around average for Smith schores if you can raise your math up.

Smith & Mt Holyoke both promise to meet 100% of fin. aid needed for all admitted students. However, I know Mt Holyoke isn't need blind for admissions (they say it's only for the "margin" of applicants, though), and I don't think Smith is need-blind, either.

With your awesome rank, I think you have a pretty good chance at both of those schools, especially Holyoke, because of their SAT optional policy. Even though Smith does requires the SAT, they tend to de-emphasize test scores.

Don't let that stop you from applying! There is nothing to lose, literlally, because both schools waive the application fee if you apply online.

You stand a chance and might get financial aid-worth applying but have some "safety" schools--Wheaton in MA? Goucher in MD? Drew in NJ also has abolished SAT requirement.

I agree flutterby high, if you are interested in MHC and Smith, then toss your hat in the ring. SInce MHC is sat optional, you do stand a decent chance of beign admitted. The school really takes a hositic approach to admissions so don't let the fact that your family does nto make a lot of money throw you off (like many ohter schools, smthi and mount holyoke look for economic diversity also). You will find that both schools offer a very supportive environment. When the colleges come to your area, vist, sign up for their on-line chats, do the alumni interviews. If you get a chance go to the parents forum and drop a line to mini or thedad, both who have daughters at smith so they can really give you more insight. All the best.

Mt Holyoke gave my daughter enough financial aid to make it as viable as the two public universities to which she applied. In fact, the college actually awarded my daughter MORE aid than originally was offered in her acceptance letter. If you are interested in Mount Holyoke, you should apply.
