UIC denied me admission

This year, almost anyone who applied to UIC at my school got in. I applied as a safety school back in January. I visited my counselors almost everyday in January just to make sure that my transcripts were sent and everything was in order. In March I receive an email from UIC admissions telling me that my application was incomplete because I was missing my transcripts so I visited my counselor again and she said that it was sent and maybe hadn't showed on the computers again. I receive another email and demand to have it sent again while I was there. I check the status of my application today and it says I was denied because of an incomplete application!!!! I am absolutely furious because of I had to do to make sure a single transcript was sent just to be denied! I don't mean to sound conceited but I had no doubt I was going to get in and was debating between this school or U of I for next year. Now I have no back up besides a few schools that I don't want to go to. I'm upset at my school counselor and myself because this isn't the first time a mishap like this happened and has caused other schools to contact me because of incomplete applications. The funny thing is was that they were only incomplete because of my transcripts. I'm absolutely fed up at this point because I feel like I've been having to do all the paper work and give reminders. Any advice on what I should do would be greatly appreciated.

Go see your counselor on Monday. Take printouts of all of your emails about the transcript issues from all of the colleges that have mentioned this. Ask your counselor to print out a copy of your transcript for you so that you can verify that your name, SSN, and any other identifying information recorded on it is the same as what you have been including in your college applications. Then, ask your counselor to phone the places that you are most interested in, and verify whether or not your paperwork ever arrived. If there are issues with the identifying information, your counselor may be able to convince them to straighten out that issue, and to have the committees re-consider your applications.

If you decide to take a gap year and reapply because your admissions experience this year was so awful, ask your school for the number of official transcripts that you will need, and send them out yourself. That way you will know that they were indeed put into the mail.

@happymomof1 thank you very much for the advice. I will most definitely be doing that this monday. I’ve had to stay at the counselors multiple times just to oversee any application sending and it’s frustrating. As for the gap year, I’m not going to let this keep me back. Thanks for the advice!

For applicants who may FA e something similar in coming years: get an official copy of your transcript and mail it yourself via a trackable mail service. Better to do this than to end up in a position like the OP.

^ Colleges usually require they receive the transcript from the HS so the student can’t “influence” what is in the envelope.
