UIC-GPPA.

thanks mid helper!

@kennedyiceit Congrats! What did your email (I’m assuming it’s an email) say?

Thanks Wasian88! This is what it said on the email:

ā€œCongratulations! You have been selected for an interview with the GPPA Medicine program at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). All interviews will take place in the College of Medicine on the west campus of UIC. Your day will consist of an interview with a College of Medicine faculty member, an oral essay, and an information period.ā€

congrats kennedy! that’s awesome! if you don’t mind me asking, when did you have your honors college interview? i’m wondering whether the college of medicine is sending invites in the order that the honors college interviews took place

@kennedyiceit Thanks! Good luck on your interview! When is it scheduled for and did UIC give you options to choose from?
@UICGPPA2014 I heard a weird rumor that they call interviews based on highest to lowest ACT. It sounds ridiculous to me, but just thought I’d put it out there!

I had my honors college interview about two weeks ago, and the gppa interview can be scheduled for either feb 6th or 10th

And you can also schedule for the 17th as well

Do they send the invites out in ā€œwavesā€ or individually? I already got into Honors College (I had my interview before winter break), but I didn’t get anything from the UIC Med School! Kind of worried…

I haven’t gotten the official notice about my honors college decision, so I’m not sure!

When we went for honor college interview, they indicated that school of medicine sends invitations in waves till some time in March

If you don’t mind me asking, for those who recieved an interview, what were your guys’ stats (ACT scores and what not)?

@Turtlesturtles
Honors College or Med school?

@Turtlesturtles I got accepted into the honors college and here are my stats! Had a 31 on the ACT and am certainly not a straight A student (but I DID ace AP Music Theory, took more than my fair share of AP’s and am in the top 5% of my class). I also did 500+ hours of volunteer work for the girl scouts alone and tons of EC. And perhaps it helped that I am Hispanic? Haha. Best of luck!

I just got my GPPA medicine interview invitation yesterday!

It was apparently sent to the wrong e-mail on January 21st, and they just forwarded it to the right e-mail yesterday. Imagine if I never got the e-mail??? Horrifying!

I was invited to either February 11 or 17 and I’m not sure which one I should go to.
Do you guys think I get a decision faster if I go to the 11th or not?

Also, I had my Honors College interview on the 11th and have not yet heard back from the Honors College. I don’t think the Honors Interview had much to do with getting a GPPA invite.

Also, does anyone know the stats on how many people applied, how many were given invitations, and how many will make it.

At the Honors interview, they said that most people who are called in for an interview make it, is it the same for GPPA?

Thanks

@turtlesturtles

For GPPA Medicine, I got a 34.

Really random question, but how do you start a thread? Obviously I can’t ask this as my own questioin…becasue i don’t know how
thanks

@Randomandweird
What were your GPA/Classes/ECs like?

i also got a 34 on the act but a superscore of 35 for gppa medicine

@itsmedonuts

Scores:
I have a Cum. GPA of 4.16 or something similar…not sure how much it was raised from 1st semester
of senior year

ACT: 34 (34, 35, 31, 34 and 10W)
SAT IIs: Physics - 700, Chemistry - 720, US History - 730
My SAT IIs were really low percentiles but I decided to send them in anyway :slight_smile:
I didn’t take the SAT

10th Grade: I took Honors Algebra II and Honors English

11th Grade: I took AP Physics B (5) , AP English Lit (3) , AP US History (5) , and Honors AP Chem. (4) (and yes, it was honors AP)

12th Grade: I am taking AP Bio, AP Calc AB and self-studying BC, AP English Lang. and self-studying Physics C E&M in an honors physics class

Our school offers only a very limited amount of Honors and AP classes due to the small size of the school, which, in its entirety, consists of only about 650 students with about 200 in the high school. There were 2 Honors courses offered my sophomore year, both of which I took. Students, according to school rules are not offered to take AP classes until the 11th grade and are limited to only 3 AP classes. I, however, was ambitious and asked special permission to take 4 AP classes with the full workload and credit. The school offered to allow me to take 4 AP classes; 3 of them would be normal APs and for one of them, the GPA was calculated on an Honors scale instead of an AP. In 11th grade, I took AP Physics B after taking a regular physics course over the summer after 10th grade. I also took AP English Literature, AP US History and AP Honors Chemistry.
This year, I opted to, once again, challenge myself with 4 AP courses. I am currently taking AP Biology, AP English Language, AP Calculus AB (self-studying BC) and AP Honors Physics C Electricity and Magnetism. My physics course this year is self-taught and the teacher only provides me with class work, tests, and quizzes. The only AP I didn’t take that was offered at school was AP Environmental because I wanted to take Islamic History instead.

I believe that is all. And for my GPPA essay, I wrote about why I wanted to be a doctor and the story of how I became interested in medicine.

That is all.
Whew…that took a long time to write!
Hope it helps! :D

@itsmedonuts (and basically anyone else who has is applying or was accepted to GPPA Med)

For MED. I’m curious with those who are in GPPA Medicine actually (or were able to get the 2nd interview) what their stats were. I remember going to one of the open houses and while the GPPA requirement is to have a 28+ on the ACTs, a current GPPA student got honest with me and told me she hasn’t met a peer who is in GPPA with anything under a 31 ACT score.

I’m just curious if that’s accurate? Competition is tough, and I’m going to take my ACTs in hopes of having a competitive score (or at least be in the same playing field with others).
