UIC Jr. Transfer Chances

I'm currently a sophomore at UIC and i just applied (1st of September, as soon as online apps became available) for the Spring 2008 semester for LAS. I will have 60 transferable credits by the end of this fall so i believe they will only be looking at my college GPA and ACT, 3.35 (Fr. year cumulative) and 31, respectively.

not too hot, but i did have a 3.76 first sem of freshman year and it only dropped to a 3.35 (3.05 second sem) because i dormed the second semester (i wrote a third essay indicating the reason for my gpa drop - the initial transition phase of dorming, college life, etc.). what are my chances for getting in this spring for LAS? will they take my dorming situation into consideration when reviewing my GPA? Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

by the way i commuted first semester to UIC as opposed to dorming there

ACT will not be a factor for anyone transfering to junior year status (those with 60 hours or more upon transfer). In other words, your course work and grades are key. Your grades are within the range needed but there are factors involved to be aware of: (a) for whatever major you are applying be sure you have the required coursework needed to transfer; (b) UIUC has foreign language requirements in each of its colleges and they like to see those already met when someone is trying to transfer; (c) chances are significantly impacted by the pool of those requesting transfer, i.e., if there are a lot of higher candidates attempting to transfer into the program you choose the chances are less than otherwise; (d) in the same vein is choice of major and seats available, i.e., if many apply to same major as you, but seats available are low, your chances are less. As to the last two factors, they vary from year to year. As to your essay, I do not know what impact it will have except they do consider them.

ok well it's been less than a week since i applied but my online application status now says 'pending decision - manual review required'. does anyone know about how long it should take before they complete 'reviewing' my app and make a decision?

If you transfer in between the 3 Universities of Illinois, you are supposed to be given 2nd priority. Assuming you meet all the transfer requirements, and the college has space, they should accept you. First priority goes to students already at that campus, then transfers from the two other UIs, than other in-staters, and lastly, OOSers.
Don't worry about the foreign language requirement because UIC's foreign language requirement is more rigorous than Urbana's.
The good thing is that you don't have to pay for a transcript.

my app said manual review for months. It's not that no one's looked at your app, it's that they just aren't making the decisions yet. I applied Jan 15 of 06 and did not get my rejection until april 3rd. i appealed two days later and didnt get admitted until may 22nd.
