@sjsharks All things being equal, pick the cheaper one.
If you’re a CA resident, then I see no compelling reason for you to go to UIUC.
Likewise if you’re an IL resident. No reason to go to a UC school when you have UIUC.

@ChicagoSportsFn I mean it applies to Berkeley or LA, but Riverside… maybe still have to think over it
An OOS bill of $50k (tuition, room and board, fees, etc) for UIUC vs $37k in-state for UC- Riverside for biology is a tough sell for me. That doesn’t consider proximity to family, parents, friends, etc and cost of travel assuming the kid is from CA.
Maybe UIUC CS or engineering could be worth it as an OOS student vs UC-Riverside.
But you’re right, not a slam dunk decision for everyone. For me, I wouldn’t pay that much more for a UIUC biology degree.
Full disclosure: Both D19 and D16 applied to UIUC, so not a UIUC hater. Love the school but the girls got into schools higher on their priority list so that’s why they’re not attending.
@ChicagoSportsFn I would also have a hard time sending my kids to UIUC at OOS tuition rates, vs. a much less expensive in-state option like almost any of the University of California system schools. The only exceptions might be if the program at UIUC was a top 5 type of major (Say Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Accounting, etc) and also much higher rated than the same major at the in-state school. This is for an undergraduate degree, of course, for grad school, there may be more exceptions.
My son committed to UIUC for ME. Today he got accepted to ME, UCB from waitlisted. He is now confused. should he accept UCB?
What is the net cost of each school @bambi253? Does your S have a preference without regard to the $?
@bambi253 what is the cost factor between two? What is your son’s first choice? Where he thinks can fit into better?
@Smartypants112233 this may be a late response as acceptance deadline is passed, but based on your profile UIUC would fit best from every aspect of your profile.
we are in CA. so UCB is in-state while UIUC OOS
@@sjsharks @ChicagoSportsFn @illinoisx3 Biology major may have thought process of pre-med track and that can change the ball game entirely as med schools are heavily GPA dependent, therefore a grade deflation / inflation should be major factor above cost. A free tuition at grade deflated school vs paid tuition at grade inflated school, it is a tough choice.
Can anyone please share out of state acceptance rate if you know of? Thank you.
@destiny25 Can you share your stats please? Applied to the same major and trying to figure out my chances.
Hi, did you do RD or EA. I am an international student as well and looking at RD for CS. My school is telling me i should have applied EA by Nov 1. I am confused and want to know if I should apply for regular decision.

@Kamaljeet why are you asking in last year admission thread that hardly anyone will reply? It should be 2024 thread
I was hoping Smartypants112233 would respond. I would put it on the 2024 thread. Thanks
Then address to @Smartypants112233
