UIUC Computer Science Chances

I want to be a programmer (correct me if I'm not going to the right course; confused whether i should go to computer engineering or science). What are my chances of getting into UIUC. Please evaluate my chances:

Ethnicity: African-American

Other information: I'm in essence an international student; I started my High school in Nigeria ( first 2 years) then we moved to the US for my last 2 years. I know my math and some other classes are lower than my peers in the Senior year but i didn't have the access to these classes back in Nigeria but im trying to make up for this when i joined in junior year ( took 2 AP's). Will Admissions give me some slack?

Im also applying to Carnegie Mellon, UC Berkeley, Georgia tech, University of Chicago, University of College park, and some others.
do i have a Chance to get in? i know admissions in America is extremely competitive.
thanks

Looking at your situation and seeing how you worked extremely hard to make up for what classes you lacked in Nigeria i think you have a good chance. Your GPA is good, but i would try to get that projected SAT just a little bit higher. Also UIUC does not accept SAT 2’s. Your extracurricular activities are very good, however if i may make a recommendation it would be to learn HTML, CSS and other web scripting languages along with javascript. Learning Javascript alone wont really help you designing websites. Good Luck!

Forgot to answer your top question. If you want to be a programmer stick with computer science. Computer engineering encompasses computer science but is focused on hardware rather than software.

Thanks for the reply. By the way I’m doing the SAT 2 because other schools require or recommend it. Would UIUC take a glance at SAT 2 scores or do they stringently deny looking at it? Are you looking into applying for UIUC? Any tips or tricks i should learn? thanks again for the response.

They will not see your SAT subject test scores at all. Same goes for letters of recommendation.

Seems kinda crazy to me, how hard would it be to consider subject test scores, especially for the highly competitive majors? But as of now, that is the policy.
