UIUC - EA applicants Class of 2025

It’s on application portal when you login says
Friday 19th 4pm

I hope my Son gets in , I am a Illini MBA

Keeping the fingers crossed. :crossed_fingers:

does anyone know what the acceptance rate is for cs at uiuc?

how does uiuc compare to umich and gt for cs

less than 10% I’m pretty sure.

Better than umich, and ranking wise same as GT, but GT has a better brand value.

Really depends where you want to be when you’re done. UIUC has brand name on the West Coast and no problem with getting a job. GT will have brand name as well. UM is great but outrageously priced but it’s their top alumni network that will make the difference and taking advantage of that. GT and UIUC are totally different types of campuses also. In regards to your acceptance rate question, one can’t really answer that because it’s all relative based on the number of seats they have in a given year and the number of applicants. It’s their most competitive major and this year no doubt more people in state will be applying. The flip side however, UIUC is not generous with merit for in or out of state students and it is very expensive for in state or OOS. A school like Purdue is very inexpensive for in state, and basically the same cost OOS as it is for in state Illinois. Much easier to get into but has a great internship and job fair that winds up being the key to getting a great job and experience at the end of the day and they have done a great job with Covid, unlike Michigan.

Also, would there be any admission indicators on myillini portal?

UIUC is ranked higher than GT

No indicators yet. I doubt there will be, given how straightforward the portal is.

Let’s not play this game. It really gives panic attacks.

UIUC some years is considered in the Top 3 really competitive CS programs. Definitely ahead of UMich and GT. GT has much better weather.

true.

No they don’t. The only thing we’ve seen them do in the past is I recall decisions coming out about 15 mins early in 2015 when they also only had one notification period for EA and RD.

How about comparing these two: UT vs. UIUC. Share thoughts.

Merit based is certainly an issue and has to do with budget issues. With Illinois commitment and other programs plenty of in state kids are qualified and are able to thrive who are otherwise won’t be able to go OOS and afford the cost. It is expected from any public university to take care of its own state students first, which UIUC also takes hit on it. I am not sure if GT and UMich has similar programs.

Except that Illinois Commitment program everyone doesn’t qualify for and its only for people who have less than 50k in assets and 67k in income. People in that situation should get a lot of aid anyway but the problem there is the Illinois commitment only covers tuition. It doesn’t cover room and Board or other fees. So when something like Engineering is about 10k a semester separate from tuition and you’re annual income is only 67k and you have no assets, then how are you expected to come up with $20k/year for room and board and the other school fees? That’s a big ask if anyone and again forces people to take out loans unless they receive even more aid above the free tuition. But regardless essentially anyone who owns a property is more than likely disqualified from getting this. Hopefully it does help a lot of students even though it’s a relatively new program and I know people were trying to pull scams as it relates to it recently so hopefully that was fixed.

In Engineering and hoping to qualify for Illinois Commitment if I get in. But a little worried reading this - what does it mean that it is $10k a semester separate for tuition for engineering?

Your total cost has 2 main components: Academic cost and non-academic cost.
Illinois Commitment covers academic cost (tuition and fees) but non-academic cost (room and boarding) can cost ~18-20K a year (~9k a semester), so if one is that broke and has 0 money to pay for it, only options are take loans and/or find other avenues for income. Kids do Federal work sturdy, also a RA (Resident Assistant) position helps to pay for it. One can avoid room and boarding if living within 50 (double-check) miles radius of UIUC (there is an exemption rule based on distance for university housing).
