I am planning to transfer to UIUC for Spring or Fall 2013 and would like to take Japanese there along with my Computer Science courses. I have taken Japanese courses at my current school but I can't seem to get a good answer as to what level I will be at. I would appreciate any information regarding the placement test and where practice tests can be found. I would also like to know the grammatical structures covered so I can prepare for the test during my year of not being able to take any Japanese courses. Thanks.

If you have taken Japanese in college you do not need a placement test, see [Foreign Language Placement Exam, Center for Teaching Excellence, University of Illinois](http://cte.illinois.edu/testing/placprof/fore_plac_tr.html). Determine the match of your courses that will transfer to the UIUC courses and then you would start at the next level. Go here to determine course equivalencies www.transfer.org; If your current college is not in U Select you will need to contact the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at UIUC to determine equivalencies.

I went to www.transfer.org; I but they don’t have any equivalencies for schools in Washington state.

^Though you can usually assume that one public university’s beginning, intermediate and advanced language courses will be considered equivalent to the like elementary, intermediate and advance language courses at UIUC, the only way to determine for sure is to contact the applicable Department and ask.
