UIUC, MIT, Rose-Hulman, Stanford

Hi there. The four schools i'm planning to apply to are the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (even though we call it Champaign-Urbana around here...), Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and Standford University.

Well, here we go:

Objective:

ACT: 33 (34 English, 31 Math, 33 Reading, 33 Science)
Unweighted GPA: 4.0
Rank: 1 (shared with about 10 others)
AP: I'm taking 2/3 (maybe 3/4) offered at my school. I'm currently in AP Chemistry with. I am receiving an A, and I have passed all of our exams without a curve. Next year I will be taking AP US History and AP Calculus if our school decides to offer it.
Senior Year Course Load: Band, Spanish 12, Physics, (AP?) Calculus, AP US History, Yearbook, PE (required), Principles of Engineering Tech.
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): I haven't received my PSAT/NMSQT scores yet, but, based on past scores, I think I have a good chance of being a merit scholar

Subjective:
Extracurriculars: Yearbook (editor), Marching Band, Thespians, Spanish Club, Rotary
Summer Activities: Yearbook Camp, Band Camp
Essays: I'm generally a pretty good writer so I'll probably do all right.
Recommendations: I know the teachers/counselors pretty well so I imagine i'll get pretty good recs.

Other
Applied for Financial Aid?: I will
Intended Major: Civil Engineering... maybe Architecture
State (if domestic applicant): IL
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Public, sends few grads to top schools
Ethnicity: Cuban
Gender: Dude
Income Bracket: Middle/Upper-Middle (?)
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Both of my parents went to UIUC

Strengths: Test scores, difficulty of courseload, personality, essays/recs
Weaknesses: Extracurriculars, volunteer work, work exp.

I forgot to add this… I’ll chance back!

Ah you’re cuban too!

I think you have a good chance at all the schools you’re applying to. I think for Stanford and MIT it will definitely be up in the air. I’m not familiar with the other schools, so I can’t help you out there. Good luck!!

Chance me back pleasee:

I think you have 100% for Rose-Hulman and UIUC. However, Stanford and MIT are a bit much. Those schools, even with your high scores are a high reach. Ive had friends who got deferred from MIT(basically rejected) that had WAY more spectacular scores than you. Sorry.

FYI, I got accepted at Rose-Hulman so you can look at my stats and chance me! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/838257-might-well-add-my-thread.html</a></p>

UIUC - in
MIT - reach
Rose-Hulman - in
Stanford - reach

I think this ^^ will be what most people will tell you. MIT and Stanford are just unpredictable but your stats look great so you do have a chance. The only thing is (as you mentioned) having more ECs/ ECs that reflects your interests + leadership positions. Good luck!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/835494-please-chance-me-cornell-ill-return-favor.html</a></p>

UIUC - match
Rose-Hulman - match
MIT- mid-reach
Stanford - mid-reach
You’ll get into the first two, but MIT and Stanford are both a bit shaky. Your stats are good, but both schools reject great students frequently.

Thanks.

By the way I’m a junior right now, and i’m going to try and find some sort of internship-type thing I could do in the Champaign/Urbana area since I live ~25 min away from there.

I also plan on taking the ACT twice more… mostly to improve my math score.

You have a pretty good shot, especially as a URM.

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign — safety
Massachusetts Institute of Technology — high reach (especially with “low” math score)
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology — low match
Stanford University — reach

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/839407-chance-vermonter-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

in at uiuc and rose-hulman. Stanford and MIT are reaches, as they would be for anyone, but your stats are great and you have a decent chance

hmmm. good stats
uiuc-in
mit- reach
rosehulman-? no clue
stanford- reach

UIUC - in
MIT - reach
Rose-Hulman - in
Stanford - midreach

you have really good test scores but a few ECs doesn’t mean you don’t stand a chance. Good Luck!
