UIUC Transfer Thread

Very impressive @Sammiyou93‌ Is UIUC the first choice for both of you? I will be weighing my options once I get all my decisions. All schools to which I applied are excellent, so it will probably come down to cost in the end. That’ is if I am lucky enough to have a choice…

@RyanAnton I will also make my choice based on all the decisions I receive. Honestly, UIUC Engineering is really good, so I possibly will end up going there. Good luck on your decision!

Status: Admitted
Major: Chemical Engineering
Decision Release Date: March 24th

I was also admitted (mechanical engineering). Got my decision March 28th.

Soooo… I think it’s safe to say that it is “mid-April”!! Where are all the decisions?? Seems to be only a few so far.

Still no decision here… I’m in at Georgia Tech and UT Austin, and I thought for sure I would know about UIUC first. Shows how much you can trust the admissions advisors.

@RyanAntony‌ between UIUC and GT which school do you prefer? I was admitted as CS major by both of them and having a hard time make a decision.

Man, I don’t know. I am already struggling to pick between UT Austin and Georgia Tech. I think I prefer them both to UIUC simply due to location, but UIUC has such an amazing reputation for anything related to computers. They all do really, it is incredibly difficult to pick one. If all else is equal, you might as well flip a coin.

@RyanAntony‌ lol that’s true. Hope I can finally arrive at a decision rationally but not by flipping a coin. Good luck on your UIUC admission!

Im in!!! Just got my decision today for Computer Engineering!! :D

@RyanAntony‌ Congratulations!! I’ve spent the past couple of days struggling on deciding between GT and UIUC

But listen to this, the strangest thing happened. I got an email from UIUC saying that I was denied admission to the College of Engineering due to missing course requirements. I knew that couldn’t be true, so I called them immediately. After answering a few questions and being put on hold several times, the admissions counsellor told me to ignore the email, and to expect an “official decision” very soon. Sure enough, not even 15 minutes later, I checked my status, which had not changed at all one way or another up to this point, and it said I was admitted to my first choice major.

The emails went like this…

First email:
"Ryan,

Thank you for applying to the University of Illinois. Your application has been reviewed for admission to the College of Engineering. We are unable to offer you admission to Engineering due to missing course requirements and the applicant pool being very competitive. I am writing to see if you are interested in pursuing another major at Illinois. You might be interested in the Technical Systems Management program for which you do meet the transfer requirements. You can learn more about it here: http://provost.illinois.edu/ProgramsOfStudy/2013/fall/programs/undergrad/aces/ag_bio_eng.html#tsm

If so, please let me know by responding directly to this email by Monday April 28 and I will be happy to work with you to help meet your goals."

My response:

Hello ______,

I am curious to know what course requirements I am missing. I thought I had everything.

Their response, after I made the phone call:

"Ryan,

I apologize for the confusion. With the applicant pool being highly competitive this year, the College of Engineering had to make some very difficult decisions.

Upon further review, there are additional spots in Computer Engineering and we will be able to offer you admission. Please log into your myIllini account in order to accept your offer of admission into Computer Engineering.

Please let me know if you have any questions."

This all happened within an hour of my receipt of the first email. Very strange!!

@Sammiyou93‌ Hey Sam. What was your decision? I am struggling on deciding between GaTech and UIUC too, and I am still waiting for Cornell, but I know I don’t have a good chance. I have to deposit now. What do you think of GaTech and UIUC?

@Hins123‌ I know it’s a really hard decision. I chose UIUC over GT, considering it is top 5 but GT is top 10 in CS. Also I’ve been in Georgia for over two years, so I wanted to go to north to see what the life is there. But I was accepted by Berkeley yesterday, so I will go to Berkeley instead. Good luck on Cornell admission!

@Sammiyou93‌ Wow. Congratulations. UC Berkeley is awesome. It seems UIUC and GT tie for #4 for Electrical Engineering. That makes decision even harder haha. Hopefully I can get into Cornell, which is my dream school.

@Hins123‌ thanks! UIUC deadline is May 1st. If you still can’t make a decision by then, I suggest you deposit UIUC first. Good luck!

@Sammiyou93‌ Congrats on Berkeley Sammi!! Definitely the right choice! I’m still trying to choose between GT and UT Austin. UIUC isn’t doable due to family situation (wife would have to work in Chicago.) What do you guys think about UT Austin for free vs GT for $7000 per year?
