UIUC Transfers for Fall 2015

It definitely does make things more complicated. I planned on getting an apartment rather than dorming, and I acutally signed a lease on an apartment in Urbana in January, even though I hadn’t been accepted yet. I’m not necessarily suggesting that you do this, but I was confident enough in my chances that I was willing to take the risk. I got an apartment that’s about a 4-5 minute walk from the physics building, which as a physics major is ideal. Had I waited until after I’d been accepted, I definitely wouldn’t have been able to get one that close.

Again, I’m not recommending that you do this…but I’m also not suggesting that you shouldn’t do this. It might not even be an option for you, particularly if you’re planning on dorming.

I’d definitely prefer to get an apartment, but with that way things are now I might have to end up living in the dorms for a semester. Hopefully I can still find an apartment though.

I’m sure there will still be plenty of apartments left a month from now. You’ll just likely have to look a little farther away from campus. The ones that are closest to campus tend to go first.

Just curious but what’s the last day to accept admittance?

I recall seeing a date at some point, but now I can’t find it. UIUC redesigned their whole website, and this new one seems a lot more confusing and totally unintuitive. Now I can’t find anything on there.

“You will need to accept the offer of admission by May 1 or within two weeks of receipt of this letter if admitted after April 15th” This is according to my admission letter.

For those who got admitted and went to community colleges in/out Illinois, did you complete all of the required courses listed from the transfer handbook? Here is the one for college of engineering http://www.admissions.illinois.edu/Content/docs/Handbook_ENG.pdf

I am going to my summer registration this Friday, May 8th. On the website it says “don’t forget to bring your course syllabi.” Does anyone know if this is just the transfer course evaluation report that they sent us when we got accepted?

Do you know what the chances of being rejected are after being accepted due to grades?

When they say to bring your course syllabi, they are referring to the courses for which they did not grant transfer credit. If you want them to reevaluate courses that didn’t transfer, you have to bring the syllabi from just those classes.

@PitLV2109 - I completed all of the courses in the articulation guide. I’m an Illinois CC student. I actually applied last year and I was rejected because I had too many credits to qualify as a sophomore and I was missing some prerequisites to qualify as a junior transfer for my major (physics). These articulation guides are pretty accurate in my experience, although they definitely don’t represent a contract or anything like that. The University of Illinois system is only partially on board with the Illinois Articulation Initiative as I understand.

@comfortablycurt Apparently, the community college that I will be likely attending is no longer offering Data Structure course, so I will not be able to fulfill the course requirements. I talked to a few advisors at UIUC today, they said if my school did not offer certain courses, then I should not be worried. But I am. I want to have the best shot into UIUC, especially since their Computer Science program are very competitive.

Ah, that changes things. If your school doesn’t offer a given course, UIUC isn’t going to hold it against you. A lot of CC transfer students encounter this with language courses and various prerequisite courses. A lot of CCs don’t offer a third or fourth level of foreign languages because they don’t have enough people taking the courses. There are a lot of various prerequisite courses that CCs don’t offer as well.

I’m technically missing one of my prerequisites for my junior level courses. Physics majors at UIUC take PHYS 225 - Relativity and Math Methods during their sophomore year, and it’s a prerequisite for junior level mechanics. However, very few CCs offer a comparable course, so they don’t really consider this as a missing prerequisite in the sense that they would consider certain other classes. Instead, they’ll most likely allow me to take 225 concurrently with PHYS 325, which is junior level mechanics.

In the case of data structures, I don’t think it’s necessarily the norm for a CC to offer such a course. I just checked my academic catalog, and my CC doesn’t have one.

I know this might be a long shot, but if someone does not have a roommate and is looking for apartments, message me. I am in need of a roommate and I have a very nice apartment in mind located near the engineering hall.

If only I’d seen this yesterday. I had a friend that was looking for someone that was looking for a roommate. He got on the apartment hunt late and couldn’t find a good one close to the engineering campus. I would have sent him your way if I’d seen this.

Ohh what happened? He found a roommate already? Because I found this really nice looking apartment close to engineering.

Yes, I should have added that. He ended up finding a place that was within a couple blocks of the engineering campus within his price range.

Does anyone have an idea of what the chances of being denied are for getting 1 C once I’ve already been accepted?

I imagine the chances are pretty small, unless it was part of a clear overall downward trend.

I’m registering for classes on Wednesday! I can’t wait!

Has anyone emailed any professor yet for some research or something.
