UIUC(UIllinois) out of state CHANCES (LAS not engineering)

UIUC only takes 5% of its students from OOS. I don't mean to be harsh, but given your mediocre GPA, why should they take you? If you were applying in-state, you would probably have a decent shot.

Still, I wish you the best of luck. Make sure you write killer essays. :)

thats according to collegeboard.com, according to their website they accepted approximately 10% from out of state last year, as well, they judge out of state on the same basis as instate according to their website...are they lying?

Since it's a public university, the state stipulates a quota of students the school MUST accept from in-state. I don't know which of those statistics is accurate, but let's assume 10% of their freshman class is OOS. This definitely increases the competition for those limited amount of OOS spots; therefore, an in-state student with a 3.15 GPA would have an easier time getting in than an OOS student with that same GPA.

In short: yes, they are lying, whether they realize it or not.

I say it's a slight reach. Because your an OOS student. Also do you know if they superscore? Most schools don't do that. I would suggest applying EA if it's your #1 choice. good luck! chance me in return?

they said they use the writing section for admissions and dont use the sat ii's at all even if you send them (lucky for me.)

anyone else? it seems like cc tends to think this school is impossible to get into, yet the only people i have seen rejected from uiuc are either applying to engineering or business, or have like a 2.7 uw gpa and worse sat's..maybe im wrong? chances are helpful
