What do you need to do to get into top UK schools (Oxbridge, LSE, UCL, Imperial,...)? I know Ecs aren't a big deal and it is all about the APs, SAT/ACT, SAT 2s, but what else? Also, does anyone know the acceptance rates for internationals at these schools? I know Oxford has different acceptance rates by intended major, what would these be for potential econ major and what is recruitment like?

I also heard that UK schools only have 1 test per class at the end of the year, which most of your grade depends on, that sounds pretty bad. Can anyone further explain?

Here’s the basics.

1) In the UK, you apply to study a specific course. For example, Finance at London School of Economics. The courses are rigid - you can’t take classes outside that course. You can’t minor or double major in anything. You have your course, which has a strict plan, and you follow it to the letter.

2) The teaching style is different from the US. There are two types of classes - lectures and tutorials. The lectures are huge, with everyone else who is in your specific course. The tutorials are smaller groups, in which you get assignments, etc.

3) UK universities have very strict requirements. All acceptances are conditional - they accept you as long as you meet the required score they give you ie. - They want AP scores, of 5,5 and 4 in three specific subjects.

4) Exams are given at the end of a semester or year. Some universities do it twice a year, others do it once a year.
