Im an American History Major studying at the University of Kent in England. As part of My course I have a year at a US college, however im looking to find an internship in the US for this summer. What kind of Internships do History Majors look for in the US?

Im in my first year. Im thinking of doing postraduate study and then possibly following a career in Teaching (post 16), however Im currently open to trying other options before settling onto a single career path.

The trick is to find a job or internship that would value your skills and experience over what a U.S. student might offer, or to fill a position that U.S. students did not apply for.

Is your year in the US for the next academic year so that this summer immediately precedes it? Do you have, or have you applied for, your student visa yet? Student visas come with employment restrictions so be sure you know what those are for your particular category and don’t run afoul of them.

If you are coming here just for a summer internship by itself, you may need a different type of visa that allows you just to work.

My year in the US is in my third year. For an Internship i think I need a J1 visa, but I will sort that once I decide what kind of thing I want to do.

I did consider the idea od working at a summer camp, but I want to work in a city or town. My US history lecturer said in our introductory talk that the Best way to learn about a nation is to live and work there. Thats what I want to do, I want a different experience of America from the times I have visited as a tourist.

If you just wish to live and work here for a summer and not worry about career path, you should look into working at camps, resorts and amusement parks (including Disneyland/World). Contact some employment agencies that place internationally. When I was in London, hardly anyone who worked in hospitality or service industry in tourist areas was British.
