Hi, I’m currently a Junior (equivalent of anyway) in a British school. I have 12 As at GCSEs and I’m predicted 5 As at AS (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Math and Latin) and 3 As, 1 A at A2 (Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Math).
SAT-wise, I have a 2210 (not superscore) on the old SAT so I can’t improve unless I take the new one or the ACT. The breakdown is M 700, CR 740, W 770. I have a 720 on Biology-M and I’m retaking in May along with Math 2 and Physics.
I’m a girl of British/Chinese descent and am not the first generation to go to college. I don’t have American citizenship and I’m not a legacy.
Extracurriculars: Piano (post-grade 8 ABRSM), Musical Theatre, Head of MUN, Head of Chess Club, 2 Martial Arts, Choirs, Debate, House Head of Music
I volunteer one a week at a care-home near my school.
I don’t really have outstanding achievements. I was commended in British Physics Olympiad and highly commended in the British Biology Olympiad.
I want to apply to CalTech (which is a long shot considering my low Math score, I know), Harvard, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, UC Berkeley, Brown and Princeton. My major would probably be pre-med or biomed. I might minor in classics or physics.
What do you think? This probably isn’t enough information so if there’s anything you want to know, just post and ask.
Thanks
You would not be considered a non-traditional student.
Most school admission offices will understand the British grading system, and your A*'s will be considered impressive.
For the schools you’ve listed, depending on your prospective major, your SAT scores may be looked at as on the lower end of admissibility. Coupled with your A-levels, however, you’re in the running.
What would be against you here is the sheer volume of competition at your targeted schools from both domestic and international students, making all of these schools reaches. If you are looking for any amount of Financial Aid, you will be narrowing your chances even further.
Is going to school in the US your goal, or to one of the listed schools specifically?
The schools you’ve listed are all great schools, but they are the schools that have known international reputations.
It would be like a student saying that they want to go to school in the UK, but only if they could get into Oxford.
If you’re open, there are a number of truly excellent schools that may fit the bill for you.
Good luck.
2210 is a great score. You don’t need to retake. Your A stars are impressive. Your ECs are a little weak, and you prob realize American colleges really value them. I think you have as good a shot as anyone, except at CalTech, whihc is very stats driven. You can always try though.
