6 A levels isn't that rare. I mean, it is a fair bit rarer than 5 but there are students who will do 6. The thing is, that for a number that do 6, 2 might be in general studies and critical thinking, which bother require maybe 1 hour of teaching time, and so are not really considered 'propper' a levels.

Someone asked earlier bout the 7 AS levels... well, i actually found 7 AS levels, easier than the 5 Alevels im doing this year (one is further maths which is a killer!) and I also got 1 B at AS levels, so i wasn't completely perfect!

Oh, you asked which subjects I did:
For maths, cus you have to do full maths A level followed by further maths A Level, i actually did 5 AS levels and 1 A Level (still 21 units though)
Maths A level: A
Biology, economics, chemstry, history AS level A
and Design AS: B!

oh, and i'm 99% sure i won't get into harvard. I mean, i have okay ECs for the Uk (i play lots of hockey, squash, jazz music, a bit of community service and i do a bit of design (made a guitar)) but really these are nothing special, and my grades are pretty good, but again, aren't really gonna get me in.

I'm more hopeful for some place in the region of Cornell/JHU.

I wish i had a higher Writing, if i get deferred i'm gonna retake in jan and work really hard to get hopefully a 730 on writing.

I'm just hoping the UK stats make up for it really, and I have one very good reference.

But, as I said, i'm not too hung up about HYPS, and i know my application probably isn't strong enough for them, so i'm just hoping i'll get into somewhere!

----------As for my SAT1(my FIRST and only sitting) I recieved a glaringly low 2010(cr700/math660/wr650).I probably made careless mistakes in math, because I definitely expected 750+...oh well. The sad part: I gotta sit for SAT2s in january, and therefore cannot retake the SAT1.

In light of my A level results, how much do you think my SAT1s are gonna hurt me? (I mean those of you who know of A levels will definitely understand that 5 As at A level didnt just come about!)

err.. is it normal for u ppl to take 5 alevels?? only a handful here in pakistan take 5. Ive got 4 Alevels and 1 AS so I guess my school grades will be considered..

An A-level Physics teacher who has taught in the UK for 5 years just told me something that made my day:P The Alevels u take in UK are very different from the ones we take here in Pakistan. Its a different board. And according to him, we've got much harder exams. Now Im content with my 4 A-levels and 1 AS=) Where are u from abhishiv? If your not in Uk, this might be the case for u too.

I do the EDEXCEL A levels--they are supposed to be standardized and should be the same for anyone who does A levels through EDEXCEL. So do people in the UK do EDEXCEL A levels?

Our A level papers are actually mailed from the UK.

I took 6 CIE A and As Levels. 4 were A Levels, and the remaining two were AS Levels.

Two years ago, a student from my school ( in Nepal) took 14 A Levels Subjects and got A's in all the subjects. He was rejected by Columbia, deferred by Harvard and accepted by Princeton.

But 14 As is really quite extraordinary; people with monster A'Level results like that should seriously consider Oxford or Cambridge, since they will probably get in with a full scholarship.

Quite a number of people get accepted to top unis with 3 ALevels (a large proportion of Oxford or Cambridge cohort will only have three) and a number of applicants will have 6+ and get rejected too!
