i just ran the net price calculator of UKentucky expecting it to say zero because I expect my D to be a NMF next year. It's giving me a full price minus a couple of loans (no scholarships). Is this standard? I understood the full ride scholarship to be automatic. Any advice? Thanks.

Did the NPC ask if your D is a likely NMF? Was that question asked in any way?

@mom2collegekids yes it was, that’s why I am concerned.

The school may not yet have determined what their NMF offer will be for next year’s applicants. Those are usually finalized in the summer before the app opens.

Or, perhaps the NPC doesn’t show merit based scholarships.

Try running it again, but put that the student will enroll in Fall 2014.

Here it uses the word eligible.

Email and ask if it’s guaranteed.

The UKy NPC does not award the NMF scholarship, even if you change input to current senior. Pretty strange, since it asks about the NMF status. They do predict other scholarship awards based on the inputted GPA and test scores, but not the Patterson. I would call and see if the scholarship is still guaranteed or expected to change next year. ‘Eligible’ is not definite enough. If you do call, report back. I’m thinking of taking S to visit this spring.

@celesteroberts thanks. it doesn’t look like it calculated any scholarships. D has good stats and the amount showed no merit money. I’ll call next week.

That’s funny. For my S they predicted $20K merit based on SAT/ACT/GPA but the NMF check-off didn’t give full-ride. Maybe the NPC doesn’t work well. I noticed that the info for the Patterson scholarship is the same on the in-state as OOS page. It says value is $78K for OOS, which is the in-state value. Could be they aren’t running a tight ship in FA office. I don’t see that they have any automatic OOS scholarships for $20K. Could be they were giving the Presidential, which is competitive, but it’s bad when NPC shows competitive money. Anyway the Presidential is full tuition, which is more than $20K.

Maybe I’ll call. I’m about curious enough. We are thinking of stopping there to visit on a spring break trip. S has no interest, but that could change if he sees the school. The difficulty getting into honors makes me a bit nervous, knew someone last year all set to enroll on the Patterson, visited and liked it, but went elsewhere due to not getting into honors.

If you are NMF, UK will bombard you with letters offering the Patterson scholarship, or at least they did for our daughter.

The full ride Patterson automatic scholarship is listed at a value of $78000. This amount doesn’t cover the out of state tuition/board. Am I reading too much in to this, or is the scholarship not for OOS. Thanks.

That is the in state value. In the past the scholarship has been available for OOS as well, with same benefits including full OOS tuition.
