Alright, my whole life I've been putting two spaces in between my sentences instead of one. I press the space bar twice after typing a full sentence. So I asked my friend about it yesterday, and he was like "What? I've never heard of anyone doing that before." Meanwhile, I thought everyone did it. It's not really one of those things you talk about very often. So, which should I do on my college essays? One space, or two? Thanks.

We discussed this a while back at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/353716-generation-gap-measured-sentence-spacing.html?highlight=spaces+sentences. It seems that two spaces is old school these days and the current standard used by nearly everyone is one space. In fact, CC truncates to one space between sentences if you use more. I intentionally used two when composing this response but there will only be one space between sentences in the posted version.

Interesting, thanks.
