<p>A Johns Hopkins alumni told me that double spacing between sentences (i.e. putting two spaces between sentences instead of just one) is very important for academic essays. I find this a little weird because I have never heard of this. Are you guys doing this in your essays? What about the extracurricular essay in the common app (1000 word count with spaces)?</p>

<p>Double spacing is “old school” and was done in the days of typewriters, when fonts were not proportional. It is definitely not necessary in today’s educational/business world.</p>
