UMAA vs Georgia Tech for Engineering

I am accepted to both universities for computer engineering. Which universitiy is better in terms of academic, college life?

moneywise?

Michigan is better at both.

Michigan and GT are roughly equal in your chosen major. In terms of overall academics (out side of Engineering and Computer Science), Michigan is better than GT. In terms of quality of life, Michigan is supposed to offer a more complete undergraduate experience. But I agree with Bearcats, what is the financial situation? Are both schools equally affordable to you?

Yes i am able to afford both school. If money doesn’t matter in this situation, UMAA is better choice?

If money is not an issue, then yes, I believe Michigan is a better choice. GT and Michigan are peers in Engineering. In the Engineering world, GT is on par with the likes of CMU, Cornell, Michigan and UIUC in terms of academic excellence and prestige. But in most other ways, Michigan is better than GT. It has a more well rounded student body, better programs in non-science fields, a nicer campus, is located in a nicer town and is more prestigious overall.

GT has one of the largest Co-op programs in the country though, which gives you access to a lot of internships. They also have a Research Option, which lets you have an Undergraduate Thesis by the end of your undergrad. I’m not trying to defend GT or anything, (I’m applying to both GT and UM), but I was just wondering what does UM have that can rival GT in these two programs?

having a big coop program doesn’t mean anything to me. you can do coops anywhere, if you feel like taking 5 years to graduate…

Michigan has UROP, making it almost effortless to get into a research group.

I don’t think this is even a question, if you have to pay roughly the same, gatech people are mostly miserable and the school has a very techie reputation, which is good if you are 100% positive you are staying in the technology/engineering community.

Ok, it seems like you know a lot about the two schools

Could you tell me the benefits and drawbacks of both UM and GT? It’s clear that you prefer UM hands-down, but please try to be unbiased =D

I ask because I don’t really know that much about UM apart from their extremely high rankings in all engineering fields

thanks

Well, no, it doesn’t give you access to any internships, only co-ops. In general it’s a ton easier to get coops compared to internships, since they cost employers a ton less. If you’re interested in doing a coop, you’ll have no trouble getting the one of your choice at UM.

ok so michigan is better than GT in all categories you guys say.

Can you tell me about the weather? Like is it freaking cold all the time in Ann Arbor? I know that GT would have like decent/hot weather.
