UMass Amherst 2021 decision thread

Hoping they release more tonight

Is the site still only updating once overnight?

what time specifically do they update every night?

@NorthofBoston @jg626e the kids who found out last Friday found out at 9 I think…

I found out I had been accepted around 6:30 pm EST, and got the email at 8:15.

I’m hoping to hear something back today. We’ll see…

Nothing back yet, I applied EXACTLY three months ago. This is honestly ridiculous. I emailed them about the status of admissions decisions-very vague question. How come someone who applied in November is hearing back earlier than someone who applied in September. (19th exactly). This college process is ridiculous.

has anyone heard anything at all since Friday?

nothing came back for me yesterday

Congrats to all those that got in to their choices and the CHC. Job well done! I was not able to convince my son to throw an app to them. It sure would have been easier on my pocketbook if he attended the state school. Haha.

Congratulations everyone!

I havent heard back either… applied in october and am in state

Hey guys, I know it’s frustrating (my oldest didn’t hear anything until WEEKS after her classmates and that’s how we felt).

But try to keep in mind that, regardless of when you “sent” your Common App, EVERYBODY applied Nov. 1. They had to wait for your grades, scores, recommendations, FAFSA’s, etc., assemble it all, and then they start reading. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it and it’s no reflection on your application.

IMO this school should double its admissions staff.

Hang in there!

@britlass I would maybe call. I was in a similar predicament with another school and I called the admissions department ( I am the student btw so you might want to have her do it.) If you show the school that you’re interested it never hurts to ask politely why, just to understand or have them go over your application. Try explaining to your daughter that she can try just to be sure. It’s not worth not putting in this extra effort after all her hard work!

@redpoodles Well, if this reasoning is correct, I guess my son will hear much later since counselor got school materials in Nov. 20, three weeks later, but by the credentials deadline. I thought they started reviewing everyone after that deadline ( rather than the Nov. 1 deadline).

@nwmom2boys You might be right!! We really don’t know exactly how they do it. I assume some kids had all credentials in by Nov 1 (I know we did) but most probably did not. But they can’t review a particular person’s file until ALL mandatory credentials are in, right? I think/assume they start Nov. 1 and keep slogging through best they can as completed apps trickle in. I assume any file that doesn’t have all of its parts by Nov 20 just gets bumped to the RD pool. It’s also possible all credentials are in but they just want to see Q1 or Q2 grades before making a decision on a particular kid (so that kid would go in the hold pile for the time being?). Regardless, they seem slow and clunky in their operation. It’s nice to know now (for us) but maybe they would be better served just rolling out all decisions on the same last possible day, which would be January something…

I guess I feel that no news is good news. This way, I can imagine the best possible scenario when there is no result yet. I’m going to expect a 3-week delay, then, and not expect anything until mid-January-- or after!

Waiting is hard during this college process. I like the idea of rolling admissions but there are probably issues with that system also. I guess there is no silver bullet other than colleges like U of Alabama publishing hard stats needed for the full ride. I like that. Makes it easy.

i read today that UCLA becomes the first school to receive over 100,000 applications for this upcoming freshman class. That’s a lot of essays to read!

I think it probably is having all the credentials in by November 1.
I submitted my application on October 31st and heard back in the first wave. But my high school counselor had my transcripts in place much before that(mid-october).

@wolfwing123 I wish that was true. I had everything submitted on 11/1 and I haven’t heard back
