How bout we release a few more apps eh UMass?
my app status just changed to “under review” so that’s probably a good sign
my D’s app status also changed to “under review” today
does anyone think maybe we will start to hear more tomorrow because the offices close for winter break? that way no one can complain
This waiting game is absolutely killing me…2 days ago UMass Admissions tweeted that they “dont have a set date at this time” for when they release more decisions hoping before Christmas…?
My son was accepted (oos, 3.6 uw/4.2 w, 30 ACT) with a $12K/year merit scholarship but no mention of CHC. It seems that with the scholarship CHC would be included. Does anyone know if a merit scholarship means CHC as well?
@themom12, it does not.
Accepted last Friday, in-state. Best of luck to everyone who hasn’t heard back.
There should be a separate notification for CHC that will come up adjacent to the Admissoms decision and Financial Aid decision
Want to share some feedback we got from UMass…My dtr’s guidance counselor called UMass and was told her stats are fantastic but she was Undecided so they put her in the school of natural sciences. Her ECs are mostly music and dance and we were told had she been majoring in arts/humanities major she would have gotten in to CHC. They wanted to see more ECs that tie in with science. Which makes no science considering she is not yet declaring a major - sigh! Basically too many qualified candidates applied so looking for nit-picky things to weed people out. Was told being Undecided does not work against you but apparently it does a little. They did say if she does well term 1 she would likely transfer to CHC. Also today she got an email to check her Spire account for financial award info but there is nothing on her aspire account… So it continues !!!
Thanks for all this info, @britlass. Has anyone else called U Mass to find out when they will release more decisions?
Still haven’t heard back kind of upset
For those of you still waiting for your decision, I’d like to share an experience I had last summer as a parent. My D16 applied to UMass Amherst RD and had waited until early April for her decision. She was accepted and chose to attend there. During Summer New Student Orientation - I had the opportunity to sit with one of the Admissions folks for supper. At one point during the meal one of the other parents at the table was talking about her son and the Admissions Counselor asked did he write about xxx in his essay? The mother was amazed and said yes. This counselor had read that particular essay and was impressed enough that she remembered it and made the connection. I don’t know how many parents were attending these two days but this was only one of several NSO’s held over the summer. The admissions counselor shared that they do a very thorough job of reviewing these applications and essays and to me her recollection and recognition of this one student from a few words by the mother made me feel a lot better about how long my daughter had to wait for her decision.
You all have probably seen the U Mass admissions update on Facebook. Sounds like they are not on break but are working on getting out some more answers-- some day, not specific about what day.
@nwmom2boys, I had not seen this on Facebook and so happy to have this information. Thank you. @Motiv8tedmom23, happy to have the info you posted too. I am feeling so much better about my son not having his notification yet.
@elise303 I know. The post on their FB page made me feel better, too, since my son hasn’t gotten anything from U Mass, either. I know it will take time. My son is actually very relaxed about it and not concerned at all that he’ll have to wait. It looks like we won’t hear this week, at this point. I’m thinking they will send out the next batch around Dec. 28. At least, that’s what they did last year, I believe.
When will the next patch come out this week?
S just checked SPIRE and he’s in! The first page was unchanged but when he clicked on the Status link it said:
"As of December 27, 2016, the status of your application is:
admitted to your first choice major.(click here for more info) - Biology(BS) .
In recognition of your outstanding academic record, we are also inviting you to become part of our Commonwealth College honors program. This distinction places you among the top of this year’s entering class and is truly a testimony to your intellectual and personal strengths."
So they ARE releasing a few more decisions now, since earlier today it was still under review. Go on and check and good luck everyone!
@silver67 Thanks for the info.! My son got in-- English major, Honors College. After figuring out how to unblock pop-up, we found out he got the OOS 14,000 merit. He’s probably going to U Mass. ( The decision as dated Dec. 23).
Still nothing. This is actually infuriating
