I was admitted to all three schools for their engineering programs and am hoping to continue with civil or mechanical engineering. However, lately I’ve been considering maybe switching to economics or business if engineering doesn’t work out for me after freshman year.
After I graduate, I plan on continuing to grad school. I’m also hoping that in my four years, I’ll have some study abroad, research, or internship opportunities.
I know that ranking wise, UMichigan tops UMass and Binghamton in most fields, but it’s so much more expensive and I was not offered any money whatsoever. Then, while only UMass offered me money, it’s still more expensive than SUNY Binghamton ($23,000 a year).
I think they’re all great options. I was also deciding between UMass honors and Binghamton. I went with the latter. If you’re planning on going to grad school I’d want to save as much money as I could for undergrad.
Michigan is a great school. The extent to which it is worth the extra money depends on your planned major and your financial situation. I see that you are in engineering, in which case I think it often pays to pay more for a better program. I’d not say the same if you were, say, an English major. LOL. But I understand that Michigan does a great job with career fairs, recruiting and the like for their engineer majors. That is worth a lot. Have you spent time on each campus? That can help as can spending time in the cities/towns around the school. Good luck!
My daughter chose between UMass and SUNY Bing…she chose SUNY Bing because of the cost, plus that is where she wanted to work (NY) when she graduated, plus they gave her over a year’s credits for her IB Diploma.
SUNY Bing was not the cheapest, but is of Kiplinger’s #16 Best Value OOS Public college schools.
As long as the program is ABET accredited you can’t go wrong and I would choose one of the cheaper options.
What is the net price for each?
