I got into University of Michigan and Tulane which are my dream schools, but I need to start being realistic and consider cheaper options at this point. Binghamton and UConn have become my most economical options. I have crossed out UMD (with scholars) simply because of the price.
I applied for political science to become a lawyer in the future, but my plans may change once I get to college and I am considering becoming a physicians assistant. Either way, my major would either be political science or something like cognitive science.
- I am from New York so I would be able to attend for $27,000 a year. I haven’t visited either school but I have never been enthusiastic about Bing. I had always considered it as a backup school and have heard many people tell me it is dark and depressing. On the other hand, I do know people that LOVE it once they get there, so I would have to see for myself. Also, I am concerned about the lack of diversity, as most everyone will be from New York and the surrounding areas.
- As for UCONN, I pretty much know that I would prefer it over Bing in regards to student life, community, and diversity. However, I am not sure if the prestige of this school is as good as Binghamton, or if the academics overall are considered equal. The campus looks beautiful online and the overall student life is great (I have a friend who goes here). I was upset I did not get into UCONN honors, however, I got a leadership scholarship worth $18,500/year, making it $35,000 per year to attend.
- In the end of all of this, there is still a small part of me that would just like to attend the University of Michigan at an OOS price. It’s my dream school for as long as I can remember, and I am still thinking about if the loans I will have to take out are worth it. It is clearly the best school I have gotten into, but the price is what is holding me back.
Overall, I believe I would have a better time at UCONN, but I am concerned about the prestige/reputation of the school, and if academics are comparable to Bing. Also, is the difference of price worth it for UCONN?
