UMASS Amherst Decisions 2022

@k41500 about an hour ago

no, i mean when did you send in your application initially?

@k41500 oh, sorry. I applied January 1st

@JJay I applied to business and was deferred EA. I was accepted in another track. My SAT was 1210 all honors in 9&10 all IB in 11&12.

I applied around mid December

Emailed admissions today about when decisions are sent out and they said this "We will continue to send decisions out in batches through mid-April. There is no particular order to when they are sent out.

"

i applied early december, my best friend hasn’t heard back for the same major as me so he’s really nervous about getting in, but i think umass just likes to scatter the heck out of their responses.

As a tax payer, I cannot say I am surprised with UMass’ prolonged acceptance notification process. As a parent, I think the inefficiency of the process is indicative of the service levels that can be expected from UMass. It reminds of the RMV before they automated.

@payasugo: when did you hear back about acceptance into alternate major?

@JJay March 2nd.

@ex2x01 The state actually has a policy on how they are supposed to look at GPA’s and I have studied it because I think I was on the bubble. A 3.1 doesn’t mean anything until you lose all of the non academic class grades, and recalculate it. Honors classes get a .5 bump and AP get a 1.0 bump. I used http://gradetracker.com/academy/weighted-high-school-gpa-calculator to figure it out.

I think you need at least a 3.4 GPA using that calculator. That’s what mine was and I was accepted.

For the record, I don’t think EC’s mean much, they cannot make up for bad grades, or poor course selection and neither can a high SAT score.

@WorkingDad - I agree! As another MA taxpayer UMass is obviously just another large bureaucratic mess! My son applied in OCTOBER, was deferred and still has NOT heard! He has a 1350 SAT and 4.5w GPA for nursing.

UMASS just needs to 'fess up and say they are a “rolling admissions” school and leave it at that.

Funny that we have heard back (accepted) from 3 other excellent and comparable state schools - TCNJ, UPitt and UVM! And they all let us know within the promised timeframe! (UPitt rolling admissions - heard within two weeks!)

We also have several excellent private schools to choose from and with good merit the cost is fairly similar to UMass.

I am not dissing the school - so please no hurt feelings from anyone - it seems to have a good solid reputation, but really for us in - staters it would be nice to have it be a little more efficient!

I wish UMass released all decisions on the same day. This waiting and hearing decisions trickle in is stressful! I ask my S everyday if he has checked his email. He is luckily a good sport.

accepted! i got an email last night at 8:30 pm

out of state, long island NY
architecture!!!

i agree that UMass is really just a rolling admissions school. Other schools have far larger applicant pools and have already released their decisions. Having kids wait to Mid-April only gives them 2 weeks to make an extremely important decision.

We all have to accept that it is getting better, (atleast for international students ). My cousin applied 5 years ago and thats is when it was a MESS, results came out late, people with same stats got results weeks apart, they never picked up calls and no help was given to those students who live thousands of miles away and cannot visit the uni to check everything.

This year I got my result by mid feb with very generous financial aid. I am no ideal applicant by any means, just an average one. The college counselor was polite and helpful, all questions were answered and emails were returned within 2-3 working days. We also got the following main :

My parents felt that everything was very systematic and computer science course over there (specially AI track) has a solid reputation. Please inform me if I am missing a major reputation perk or any other major information about the college. But as of now I am considering becoming a minuteman.

Also if anyone could throw light on how the life is at UMAss and what one can do in and around the campus it would be great.

@payasugo His weighted GPA is around 3.3-3.4 without senior grades which he took 3 aps and did better than any year.

@ex2x01 that’s just about where I am, but you still have to count senior grades. They have them in the Mid Term report that just went out last month.

yes my daughter got in (in state) March 2 to Isenberg. I believe they are doing it in batches as lots of folks have not heard yet
