It is unlikely at this point. Having to travel so far for clinicals is a big deterrent. Also, I thought the tuition would be s big advantage, but I think she is down to the final two, A large out of state school and a mid size Jesuit college both have given her significant merit money to made the price difference not a factor.
Are the people being wait listed out of state or in state? I was wait listed at Uconn but I am out of state so I figured they give in state people preference and I think they should.
Wait listed In state, 3.7 GPA 1240 SAT. Most of the spots seem to have been taken by early action applications and pretty much everyone at my regional high school has been wait listed who applied regular. Guess now some of us who want to attend will have to tough it out or transfer later on,
I’m in state
Daughter applied EA to Isenberg and received acceptance late December. In-state, 4.52wGPA (translates to something like 3.9 according to the university GPA calculator). 29 ACT and 1360 SAT. Many ECs and leadership positions, DECA wins at district and state levels, 1 varsity sport, 3 honor societies, 4 one-week long mission trips, 3 years of after school jobs to earn spending $. Mom is alum of MBA program. Isenberg undergrad program has earned a very nice reputation (according to Bloomberg). Many talented faculty, however daughter chose a large OOS university, also with a good business school reputation, that offered enough merit so price is comparable to in-state tuition. Felt school of choice has a more cohesive vibe, bigger sports following, and better college life opportunities (women’s volleyball, a cappella groups open to non-music majors). Daughter reports many waitlists and rejections of good candidates at her high school.
I applied EA to Isenberg and was deferred. I was accepted into an alternate major earlier this month. I am appealing because to be honest I have other options and was accepted into other business schools. I want to at least start off studying something I am interested in not some random subject they have extra professors for.
I have about the same stats as some of the people that were wait listed here so that’s confusing. It doesn’t seem like they plan this very good. I go to a small very competitive high school and all of my friends were accepted but we all applied early.
So when exactly will waitlist people hear about fall admission? I know its after May 1st because that’s when they’ll get all their deposits, but would it be a few days after May 1st, or like middle/late May?
Did anyone get any information on the PiE program at Isenberg?
Does anyone know when we get financial
Aid information?
Hey, I am sorry I know this is probably not for discussion on this thread, but I ‘ve to know something.
I got into umass for cs major and 14k scholarship, now I want to know that can i stay at northern apartments? If yes, how to apply for that, if not, then which is the best place to live at?
P.S. I am an international student
Lol this is the only school that accepted me I’m depressed
@afreeman Do you have any safeties?? Community college is always an option
@Elly710 Yeah, this is my safety. I got in, but i don’t think this is the right school for me.
@afreeman If you search CC, you will find many students for whom UMass Amherst was not their top choice, but they enrolled and later were very glad they went there. It is not so easy to get accepted these days, as it is becoming a higher caliber flagship every year (and perhaps about to add an extension campus in Newton). UMass has a lot to offer, both academically and in quality of college life for students. (And you could always transfer.) May you find a path that you can be happy with, and remember that most of what you get out of college is really based on what you put into it.
@dolken thanks for the input! By any chance, do you know anyone who transferred from UMass Amherst to an ivy league school? or even Boston, Chicago or the same caliber?
It is pretty rare as an undergrad, and transferring to Ivies from anywhere is usually more difficult than getting admitted as a freshman, but there are exceptional exceptions. I am not at UMass, so not in a good position to know many transfers. But I do know one person there who is headed to an Ivy after being originally waitlisted at the Ivy, and prearranged to attend UMass for just first year. (I don’t know how often that happens.) She is kind-of sad to be leaving UMass, though. Below are some old posts about transfers, but it might be good to talk directly with an advisor at UMass. They might also be able to tell you about how many UMass students get into Ivies for grad school, and what sorts of grades are required these days.
i emailed my admissions counselor, and he said there may not even be a waitlist. guys this is so bad. UMass is the only school I wanted to go to. i applied undeclared health sciences and was in the upper 75th percentile for UMass SAT scores & GPAs. i’m in state. i was literally in the top 15-20% of my class. unfortunately, i applied regular decision which is what im assuming screwed me over since literally no one at my school got in through regular decision. a lot of people are assuming the class had filled up on early action kids. does anyone have advice on what to do? if i dont get off the waitlist, im literally going to a college that’s 12 hours away when i want more than anything be 2 hours away, at UMass. i’m actually freaking out.
@123hng mind stating the list of colleges you got into. Is it financial reseaons you are worried about, or umass was a dream school. What option did you pick fall or spring for the waitlist form? Most kids say that usually people get into the spring classes, so don’t freak out!
@afreeman literally same. also got waitlisted by UChicago.
@okaylolreally what program did you apply to?
