UMass Amherst Honors vs Purdue !

Hey this is my first post and I hope I don’t sound fool or rude to people here.

I’m a student who moved in to Massachusetts 4 years ago. I’ve been trying to acquire a lot of information as possible, but I still don’t think I’m fully prepared to make the decision.

At the moment I am considering either

UMass Amherst or Purdue.

I got into UMass Amherst as civil engineering major and got accepted to honors program.
Some people here say that it is hard but good but I am not convinced because I’m not sure if its really worth it.
Financial aid provided me about 25k(including loan) out of 28k for the freshman year. And I also think that I will be trying to transfer to other colleges after spending few years here.

I got into Purdue as Undecided and I will try to move into civil engineering program.
For some reason, I did not see many people positive about Purdue here in this “college confidential” but I believe that it is a good college for engineering with good reputation. I got 20k as financial aid out of about 55k freshman year. I do not think I will be trying to transfer to other colleges.

I know both of these are good colleges.
I am kind of leaning toward UMass Amherst because it is cheaper and have better transfer programs I reckon. I hear a lot that the brand reputation of the college wouldn’t matter much later in my life and I understand that.
But my parents think that I shouldn’t worry about the money and should go to the college that they think is more popular and better in ranking. They are pressuring me to go to Purdue at the moment.

I just think that I should have tried harder in high school to not worry about all these.

Please help me to convince myself to go to UMass Amherst Honors or Purdue.

Any kind of comments are greatly appreciated.
Let me know if I am missing any information that will help you to see what kind of person I am.

Thank you so much for spending your time reading.
I hope you or the people that you care are successful with anything as well.

@Adiank UMass has an excellent reputation for engineering and CS. I don’t understand you’re “not really worth it” or comment and “brand reputation issue.” Did you visit both?

If you are in as engineering at UMass, it will be better for you. Transferring to engineering major in Purdue is very hard.

I think of Purdue and UMass as peer institutions. I wouldn’t spend a lot more to go to one over the other. Why do you think you would need to transfer out of Umass?

CHC at UMass is quite prestigious and comes with a lot of perks and advantages.

Congratulations on your acceptances. I would recommend UMass simply because it will be very difficult to transfer into engineering at Purdue. Also, the generous financial aid offer from UMass is a wonderful opportunity. Good luck!

Thank you for all these caring comments and advice. Appreciate you all.

UMass Amherst for youR major and honors college.

Can you tell me what your out of pocket cost will be for Umass?

Go for UMass if it will cost you less. Both schools are ABET certified in engineering and you will get a good education at either.
