Hi! I'm from Venezuela and I just got accepted in Umass Amherst. They gave me a Chancellor's Scholarship of 10,000$. On the letter says that it is renowable for up to 8 semesters, but the website says it is for four years. Does anyone knows if it's granted each semester or each year?

In the US each academic year has 2 semesters. 4 years = 8 semesters.

I understand that. What I don’t know is if the scholarship is for each year or each semester

Congratulations on your scholarship, that’s great. Usually aid packages are distributed each semester. Funds awarded are applied to your fixed costs including tuition, fees, room and board, then any excess is distributed to you per semester. Is there some concern you have?

Was that an early application? I thought results did not come out until mid-December.

Yes. It was Early. I thought that too!

Thank you! For now, I’m good

I also got the same award. It is annually. So $40,000 in total for four years.

Congratulations! And, wow, for finding out so early!

Congratulations to both of you! I’ll have to let D know some acceptances are out. How were you informed?

Ad when did you apply? We didn’t apply till Oct 29th.

I applied in Oct 31st and received a letter. Maybe receiving it so early has something to do with being an international?

Maybe?

UMass can be a bit irregular with sending out acceptance letters. Last year, I applied regular decision and got in early march. Some of my friends didn’t even hear back for another two weeks. The discrepancy was even wider for early applicants, with some people getting their decisions early December and others getting them after Christmas.

I went for Early Action and was quite surprised they gave me my decision after only 13 days!

@NEPatsgirl I was notified through a mailed package which included my admission decision to CHC and the scholarship/

Thanks Terrance. Are you an international student or from the Northeast?

I’m international.

Thanks, apparently internationals get their decisions much earlier. Again congratulations!

Looks like we, folks (americans), have to wait another month.
