UMass Honors RAPs

I am in a bit of a dilemma right now.

(Computer science major)

On one hand I would like to live with other science/math majors so we could study together, on the other hand I know math/science majors are 95% males.

I REALLY DONT WANT TO LIVE ON A FLOOR WITH A BUNCH OF DUDES!

I am considering signing up for the creativity RAP because I believe there will be a more balanced male/female ratio.

This is very important to me because my high school was a boys school.

My question is am I wrong to assume there will be more girls in the creativity RAP? Everyone I know has told me math and science are dominated by guys.

Does anyone have experience with these RAPs?

The Computer Science RAP is offered in Orchard Hill. That would give you both mixed floors and people in your major. On the flip side, the CHC dorms are newer (and are air conditioned).

True that CHC dorms have AC and just a year old, but you have to be in the honors college to live there. I believe the honors RAPs are located there.

Creativity RAP is in the CHC.

I know this answer is too late, but yes I think you are right when you assume more girls will be in the creativity RAP. I think there will definitely be some guys, but probably more female dominated. I think that math/science might be a little more balanced (I don’t know), but still male dominated. I think either way would be fine… I doubt that there would be any single gender RAP but I do understand the concern you have after attending a boy’s school
I kinda feel like girls are more likely to join RAPs but I have no evidence backing that up

Hey, I just want to let you know that the RA for the CS RAP is a woman for this coming year(me!). When I was on it as a freshman, there were 2 girls in the actual RAP, but there were at least 4 other ladies on my side of the hall in a quad, and the other side of the hall was 50/50.

Most of the guys were pretty social and had plenty of female friends. Don’t go to CS classes hoping to meet girls to date(most of us won’t appreciate it cause we’re trying to study), but if you go to any sort of social event and are reasonably socially adept and hygienic/healthy, the CS major will only be a plus to ladies, since it means you’re smart!

Edit to add: I also wouldn’t recommend hall-cest. It leads to drama. Dormcest is a little less awkward, but not perfect.
