Umass

Can I make it into Umass Amherst with a 3.55 gpa and 1170 sat score and 2 jobs

Are on in-state? What is your intended or likely major?

If you are in-state, I would also apply to U.Mass Lowell (or alternately Boston) as a safety. I do think that it is definitely worth sending an application to U.Mass Amherst.

Jobs are a valid EC. University admissions understand that some students need to work to make money, and also appreciate that you gain skills and a useful perspective on life through working.

If you work 2 jobs due to family financial need then that would be a plus. If you are working 2 jobs just to make money for yourself at the expense of academics then that would be a negative.

Yes I am in-state and also played 2 sports for 3 years but needed surgery senior year

And my intended major is either accounting or civil engineering

Your GPA is good for UMass Amherst, and okay for the majors you want. Your SAT score is a bit low for UMass Amherst as a whole, and rather low for the majors you want. I’m thinking you absolutely should apply, knowing that it’s possible you’ll get into the uni, but not into your majors right away. If that happens, you just take specific classes and do well in them, then apply to the major.

You should also apply to other schools that have good programs in the majors you like, but which are a bit easier to get into in terms of SAT score. I’m thinking UMass Lowell and also UMass Dartmouth.

My daughter got into Isenberg a few years ago with SAT scores similar to yours, although her weighted GPA was quite a bit higher than yours, if yours is weighted. (She also had a lot of leadership stuff, long term dedication to a sport, and two jobs.) I would say definitely worth applying, even to Isenberg or the engineering program, but make sure you have a good back up plan.
