UMBC vs. Towson... Which one is easier to transfer to UMD?

I didnt get in spring or fall semester at UMD. I wanted an instate school that has a generally warm and interactive campus as well as strong academics and internship opportunities. From visiting UMBC, I strongly disliked the campus, but loved the academics they had to offer. I also dont like how its a commuter campus since I will be living in a dorm. Most people go home on the weekend and from word, Ive heard campus life is boring. At Towson, it was the opposite- I loved the campus feel, but disliked their academics. In fact, the tour didnt even talk about their academic programs they had to offer! Just activities. Anyway, I will be transferring to UMD in 2011. Will going to either UMBC or Towson increase my chances of getting accepted as a transfer student at UMCP? Where do you think I should go considering my wants?

Interested in hearing the answers. My D is on the fence between these two also, but her decision is more financial. These were her two favorites after visit days. She would be doing Biology at both and looking to get into either veterinary or med school. After getting her scholarship information Towson would be less debt after graduation while UMBC seems stronger academically.

For me, my overall decision of where to attend college is financial. I got into other schools out of state, but realized I cant afford them. There is no way I am paying $40,000 a year to go to Penn State (though it is truly n amazing achool)!

If you are in state (MD), Towson and UMBC are about the same. Towson is about $1500 cheaper. But if you are out of state, the schools have the same tuition.

I hope to graduate from my undergraduate studies at UMD, so I wasnt sure if the university I attend prior to UMD made a difference.

this is the same question I have! need answers!!!

I’m a student at UMBC and I love it here. Academics are great especially if you’re a STEM major. Everyone says that UMBC is a commuter school and everyone goes home on weekends. I haven’t been home once this semester except for at break. On my floor there are only two people that go home on weekends so I still have plenty of people to hang out with. People say weekends here are boring, but weekends are what you make of them. Personally I have tons of fun most weekends just doing stuff with my friends. Towson’s definitely the party school, but at UMBC you just have to look a little harder to find them. I don’t know much about Towson’s academics, but I have friends there that say the academics are pretty good. Hope this helps and if you have anymore questions just ask.

I go to UMBC. I love it. It really allows you to focus on your academics.
