Hello this is my first post. I am currently a transfer student, I've been attending a community college for the last year and a half, I've basically completed an associates in General Studies with a 3.56 average. Okay so I have a dilemma, I was accepted into Towson, and UMD College Park. I am having a dilemma in choosing between the two schools. I am thinking of doing something with business, and I know maryland has probaly the better school, but i herd its pretty hard to get into, also Towson is a manageable ride from my house (I live in white marsh), so I probably would not need to live their, and I herd college park is pretty expensive? Also, when I graduate I want to return to my home country Brazil and I herd Maryland has internships in foreign countries, and I don't know about Towson? But in Towson I think I could complete a degree in buisness quicker (I am 19 and I want to get school behind me). Please help me, because I am having a hard time choosing. And sorry for my ramblings.

No one can answer this but you, but think about the questions you are asking:

Is it important that you be close to home? Or would you be willing to live on campus at UMD?

How much do you know about Towson’s internship opportunities? You need to do some research on both schools (you can start by looking on their websites) and see if you will really be at a disadvantage by attending Towson. Personally, I am sure that if you do well, you will be able to find work in your home country no matter which school you attend.

What kind of financial aid will you be able to receive, and how important is it that you get it? If UMD is more expensive and would require more time in school, Towson is the more convenient choice.

It sounds like you know Towson may be better for YOU (close to home, cheaper, less time to graduate), but you are worried that you will be missing out on attending the “better” school. I’m in a similar situation, where I am fairly certain one school is better for ME, even though I got into a school that is ranked higher. But prestige isn’t everything. Make the choice that’s right for you, whichever school that may be. Good luck!

If you are planning to return to Brazil after you graduate, you can use your own family contacts to set up any internship experiences that you want to have there. You don’t need to have the university arrange it for you. However, you should find out from people in Brazil whether one of these two universities is more likely to get you a job when you return. Maybe your choice of university will matter, maybe it won’t.

I toured Towson last month with Happykid and some pals from Montgomery College. Two of them really liked it, the other one liked UMBC better. The only thing bad I can think of about Towson is driving there on the Baltimore beltway! That was a pure nightmare.
