Hi- got invited to join the UMD CP Scholar Program. Although it is by invitation only, it is not the same as the traditional Honor's Program. Anyone have any experience or comment about this program: the classroom, classes, class sizes, living environment, etc.? Honors have their own classes. This program has some special programs, but how about others, will you are the large attending classes with the other students? Is it just a hype-name program or only if it is a special program worth looking into?

I found my answer in the CC UMD link.

I know 2 girls in Scholars. They lived in a dorm with other scholars, but I am sure the entire dorm is not in Scholars, maybe by floor - I think they were in Centreville for freshman year? They have required meetings and outings depending on which interest group they join. Pick one quick or you get stuck with what is available. No special classes, in with everyone else. They had an all day field trip during orientation, and I think a couple of other times. One was talking about service hours she need to get over winter break but I am not sure it was for scholars. According to one girl, it does not take up much time, is only for 2 years, and some paper (not sure if diploma) will have the Scholars Program designation, and maybe it will help with grad school applications.

As to the Honor's program - if there are spots available a student can apply after 1st or second semester. Requirements and appiication details are one the website. One of the girls applied and would have been accepted but there were no spots available. They have some nicer dorms (read AC, but sometimes tripled) and of course the smaller Honors classes which are required.

Congrats to your son.
