Hey everyone. So I got accepted into UMD college park and got into the honors program. I also got accepted into penn state university park and was invited to apply for the sapphire leadership program (I don't know if I'm accepted into that yet). I plan on majoring in business management or marketing and got into the business schools at each university. I am really torn as to which school I should pick. Both schools would cost about the same, so that is not an issue. I liked UMD's campus better, but I know penn state's business school is ranked better than UMD's (38 vs 22). I also could apply to penn states honors program for my sophomore year, but I know that it is competitive. I'm also not that much of a party person, and I know penn state is known for its parties. (although, I know all schools have a party scene). I like to have fun, but my grades are also very important to me. I'm also kind of surprised that I got into UMD's honors with my 1290/1600, 2010/2400 sat score, but my GPA is a 4.47. Should I take advantage of UMD's offer? I need help!

I would just go with whatever choice is less expensive. Both universities have good programs.

It sounds like you have two great options here! UMD will have a lot to offer considering you’re in honors so you’d get opportunities that other students might not get. On the other hand, Penn State has a highly ranked program that would help you as well. I don’t know enough about business to give great advice but I think it makes sense to go to UMD where you’re more wanted, but either choice would make sense. I think what you should consider doing is, considering cost isn’t a factor, visit both schools and see which one feels better for you. You’ve gotten into two great programs that both give you good opportunities, so this is probably a good time to focus on fit and which school feels like it has more to offer. Good luck with your decision! :)

…bump

Penn State’s kinda in the middle of nowhere (from what I hear, I’ve never been there!) so if you’re not into parties, it can be tough. I mean, it’s a huge school so I’m sure there are tons of things to do, but it is definitely known for partying. UMD, on the other hand, is right outside DC, so there are awesome events and attractions right there. Maryland also seems better because you’re already in the Honors program, whereas with Penn State you’ll have to apply for it and may or may not get it.

Both are solid programs and wherever you go, you’ll find your place. I’m a bit biased but go to Maryland!!!

i got into the sapphire program. im so confused what to do. penn state job placement is 100% though for business
