^ Niceeee. 0/3 for combined programs ftw! :D

A huge thanks to you for your incredible resourcefulness, Hydrogen3k.

No problem!
Good to see another desi entering medical school -- we're taking over the field!

haha...regardless of wherever we ended up, yeah i think everybody should thank hydrogen3k for his help, especially since he's already been through this process and he's come back to cc to help us all out. Even though i think i got rejected by umdnj, your advice was nonetheless helpful.

Go DESIS. rock them samosas.

Hi PipingHotTofu,

Just checked your posts.......you got in at Drexel BS/MD. Good for you!
Glad to see desis influencing all med schools. I think all of you, up and coming desi docs(to be) really should set up a networking organization.

Let's come up with a smart name for this organization.

You all could have a mission to-
* help rookies in Med programs
* encourage and support each other
* some of us oldies (both me and my hubby are Pharma Clinical and preclin researchers, respectively) could join and help out with providing support/internships/pharma/research opportunities etc.
* Just have a place to vent your frustrations as well
* How about ECs to help out less fortunate in the World?

Hydrogen3K,

THANKYOU - for all the energy you put into your responses! You have proved to be an exemplary mentor and will be a very fine physician soon.
Parent '11

No problem. I'm here to help. I know this is a big decision and its always nice to get as many different perspectives as possible.

pharmagal...haha sounds like a good idea! Yeah i got into drexel and psu...and i'm confused as to whether or not i got in here because a few of my friends have gotten calls of acceptance and some have also gotten letters of rejection...i haven't gotten either.

But yeah, that networking idea sounds wonderful, especially considering the fact that desis are probably the most overrepresented minority in these combined programs.

I've heard that they may be having a waiting list this year. Also, maybe they wanted to call you, but couldn't get you personally or you're at the end of the list.

Does umdnj/njms publish the mcat scores of matriculated students? Was wondering about mcat scores of the ba/md kids. - how well does rutgers/tcnj course work prepare them for the mcats? And also how many students continue on to njms (what %age drops off and why?)

I don't think such is published. Many of the students don't even try on the MCAT. If I were in regular undergrad, I would have spent 10x more time studying (instead of just some of winter break). For example, last year a person got through with a 21 (he took the MCAT without taking one practice exam). In regards to dropping out, I'm going to say 1/10 of the kids leave (but, that's a guess).
I think I'm going to try to compile some data sometime soon in regards to average SAT, average GPA, etc. of students in the program. Also, the average USMLE step 1 score would be good. The thing is, the program is now becoming more and more known now than before, so there would be lack of data here at the moment. Maybe I'll try making some sort of website that also holds some example student profiles (what they did in HS, etc). Hopefully, I'll have time to do so.

not expecting this....dr.shevlin just called me today to tell me i got into the program. Apparently he "forgot" to call me last week or something.

AWESOME!!!! Congrats!
I guess you now have that not-so-hypothetical situation to chew on.
Again, if you need any help, I'll be here. I know these are hard decisions.

Also, I inquired about the Waiting List - they decided not to go with it (so, decisions are final).

Congrats, Pipinghottofu! Great to see that you have a chance to stay in NJ now.
I guess we will all meet up on Monday then.

Hydrogen3K, I wish you could join in at the TCNJ Openhouse. It would be nice to introduce you to the rookie Programmers. They have a role model to look up to.

Dr Shevlin's letter came in today's mail. What an exciting time! Congrats to everyone who got accepted.

I guess we will have name tags. We should jot down our CC screen-names on our name tags then. 8-)
See you Monday!

Well, I'll be around the medical school if anyone ever wants to drop by...have fun on Monday, though!

yeap...hope to see you and your son there pharmagal.

Has the acceptance rate for the UMDNJ 7 Year med program increased
over the years? I've always heard that this accelerated program was
one of the more difficult programs to get into, but in a letter I received, it said that there were about 43 TCNJ applicants admitted for the program
Is UMDNJ slipping in its ranking?

thanks for you help guys

43!
When I was admitted, I heard that 30 were let in.
NJMS's staying around the same; the popularity of the program, however, is gong up.
I've talked to some of the admissions people and the applicants in the BA/MD program are getting good step 1 scores -- so it helps the school. Many people who are admitted don't come, so they must be hoping to get more through.
Rutgers has admitted 17 (probably the same people who got in at TCNJ).

Maybe I misinterpreted the letter but it states, "I am pleased to inform you that the NJMS Admissions Committee has admitted you and 42 other TCNJ applicants to the TCNJ/UMDNJ-NJMS combined Baccalaureate-MD program.

and just one more question..what is the current ranking for UMDNJ?
