So this is funny...

I have good stats SAT 1800's
NHS
Captain
Sprots
Top 15% of class There is so much more but you get the idea. I did well. Not as good as some but I know I did quite well. All of my SAT's numbers are well within the range of what UCONN looks for. This also includes my GPA and class standing. Yes, I'm also instate.

I have heard and seen some crazy things and I'm in the same boat as the many. I went EA to UCONN and even being well within their expected student range I went directly to wait list. I can assure you that my essay was also very good, I worked on it for two months because the topic was very special to me. I also had a some very good help.

So back to the waitlist thing and my stats and me being very confused. I applied to Yale because I felt if I didn't I would have always questioned myself and never truly knew. I have so much respect for the kids that applied there. Clearly they all worked hard but so many got deffered, waitlisted, or denied.

So here I am well within the UCONN expectations and waitlisted but at Yale I am very much in the running. I have not been waitlisted or denied.

How can someone with my stats still be in the running for Yale and get waitlisted at UCONN. I would have been more than cool with being deffered but to go directly to waitlisted is very strange.

I need to add that I have a friend that did better than me. He also went EA and got waitlisted. Together we laugh...what else can we do!!

I'm really confused over this entire college application process.

Anyway, I'm sure there are others in this boat. Either way UCONN remains a good school but I can't wait. I have U of Maryland and PENN to go to right now so I have something which is good. I'm waiting on all the private schools now, Yale being one of them.

Good luck to the class of 2016 at UCONN. In advance I'm sorry but if I go to another public I have to change my school colors to where ever it is I end up. Bummer for me but congrats to the rest of you all.

If my trip to the moon comes through (Yale = reach) I'll remain a UCONN fan.

How did you get into Penn with an 1800 ish SAT and i must have ED to hear by now.

I guess OP could have ED at Penn and EA at UConn unless it is really Penn State that he is talking about. And UMD like UConn is more of a rolling notification, so it is possible that he has heard of the decision from there by now. Also if you are applying RD at Yale, Ivy schools do not send out an answer until the end of March, so it is not unusual at all for Yale not to say anything yet. Without considering GPA, 1800’s SAT is sort of middle of the road for UConn, so I think you can’t threat UConn as a safety at all with that score.

I was thinking it that they must have applied ED to Penn but if so why would you care if you got into UConn or not you are supposed to withdraw the rest of your apps. I have a feeling that the op means Penn State not UPenn that would make more sense score wise. Plus the op said he is waiting for all private schools and UPenn is a private while Penn state is public so i will assume he was accepted to PSU. If you cannot get into UConn Ea then you barely have a chance at all for Yale.

U of Maryland is more difficult to get into than UCONN. For the SAT’s I mentioned 1800’s so I’ll break it down.

U of Maryland is the hardest to get into out of all three. UCONN and PENN St are very close with their posted numbers.
U of Maryland and PENN St both offered me the college of engineering and I found out really early for both.

My extra school activities, community involvement, sports record, and leadership rolls are also very strong. What’s sad is I even received an award from UCONN for excelling in an academic area. I thought that alone would have said something. My family are alumni. Oh and then there were the phone calls telling me how they wanted me to apply and looked fwd. to seeing my application. I love the school, it has a lot to offer any student. It will continue to be a great university. My application just did not cut it for them for whatever reason. I have a lot of respect for whoever does the applications, I’m sure it’s net easy turning some good kids away. Diversity is powerful and it is what it is.

I’ll say it again all the very best to the calss of 2016, some of them are good firends of mine. Do I wish I was selected, you bet but just think about how happy another kid must be that did get selected and maybe UCONN was their reach. I have choices, I would just feel bad that I have to fly other colors than UCONN.

As far as Yale goes… Okay I can wait until the end on March and I already know that I’m not getting the letter; however, there have been many that did in fact get denied and I’m still in. That’s crazy… Yale is a dream and if that came true I would be really greatful. If someone can get into UCONN as a reach why not me and Yale. It’s a fun thought!!

There are also other privates that I applied to and I feel confident a couple of them will also offer a spot. Crazy fun times…looking fwd. to going to college. Hey maybe I’ll get lucky and UCONN will pull me from the waitlist, there will be some dropping off so it’s not over until I pack my bags for school.

It is almost like statistical game, there is no gaurantee, the published score is just the average of previous year accepted applicants. The are outliers who get in while there are people within range that are denied. Congrats on UMD acceptance, one way to look at it, you actually beat the odd and got in the more difficult one.

As for Yale, the people who got denied are probably the SCEA applicants. I believe Yale do not send out RD notifications in drips and drabs, they send them out all at once. Good luck.

As long as I go to college that’s all that matters at this point. Yale, UCONN, it’s all good. Thank you for the input.

You won’t even be close to Yale’s standards. Why would you think you could get in if you were even top 15%? HAH. Idk why no one else commented on that.

“Idk why no one else commented on that.”

Because it is very obvious that OP understands very well what his situation is with Yale. It is redundant to restate it again and it’s bad karma IMO.

RUKidding - I wouldn’t give up on UConn yet. UConn has a large enrollment and I’m sure that spots will open up for the waitlist. What I do recommend is putting together an additional package of your recent accomplishments and grades, including another letter of recommendation (but only one). My daughter was waitlisted at her top choice school and really showed the school that it was her top choice and she also put together additional materials and she was one of the lucky ones that went from the ‘waitlist’ category to the ‘accept’ category. Good luck!

ttparent & konathedog,

Thank you for the support and feedback. Respectfully, I will never give up I just have to look at what I do have. If UCONN turns around then back to the top of the list it goes. A letter of appeal as well as other information has been submitted. The last set of grades I have were A’s…and the classes are no walk in the park.

Blazinboy,

Don’t you think for even a moment that I knew Yale was a reach. What I have is a great deal of courage & confidence in myself and nobody will ever take that away. When I went through this I did not recall reading anything on the Yale website that had a cut off or a sub standard of what they are looking for. I hope that this will answer your question of “Idk why no one else commented on that.”

This is what I know. I took the time to look at Yale, what they have to offer, their history, the subject matter I would like to study, the culture, sports, and many other items. When I knew they had things I liked I answered their application much like what I do to others. At no time was there any block on my application. There was nothing that said I could not get in. The way I look at it is I have a chance like anybody else that applies. You can’t fault a person for trying because without trying then there is no knowing.

Again, I have courage & confidence and it feels good.

The odds are slim this I know but I do have odds. You know when I went on my interview I did not know what to expect of the person that would talk to me. You know what I found out…they were human much like me. I was never told that I would not get in. In fact at the end of the interview I was told that I would be highly recommended. It was not toung and cheek, I saw the letter.

I do like your comment, it’s comments like that that make people like me beat the odds. I have not given up on any of my schools, but I just can’t wait.

People are not born great…we have to work for it. It does not matter what school any of us go to the only thing that matters it what you make it.

Hope this helps…thank you again for the feedback!

ttparent, konathedog,

Thank you again… The wait is over, I’m in.

In regard to PENN St. they gave me acceptance on Jan 23 to the college of engineering. It’s all a big crap shoot.

blazinbboy, in regard to your post “You won’t even be close to Yale’s standards. Why would you think you could get in if you were even top 15%? HAH. Idk why no one else commented on that.”

I’ll say it again courage & confidence…that just helped me get into UCONN, I know it will be part of the Yale decision. Your right and I knew it from the start of my research I don’t come close to the Yale standard but at least I’m trying. Courage & confidence!

RUKidding, Just looked quickly at all these posts. Do I understand this correctly, you were waitlisted and just taken off the waitlist today? I ask because my daughter is waitlisted and I am wondering if it is possible to get off the waitlist before May. If I read your posts correctly, it seems as though you were just accepted off the waitlist? Is that correct? If so, can you share approximately when you were put on the waitlist, and how soon after you were taken off it? Also did you find out by checking the studentadmin website and your status changed? Any information is helpful. Thanks so much for sharing, and congrats!

Congratulations. It is interesting that you were taken off the waitlist (if that was the case) but some people still have not even gotten their regular decisions.

RUKidding… could you please explain… were you already offered admission to UConn from the waitlist or not?

Yes, I was offered admissions my page just changed. This is very stressful I know so many that want in and being in that boat I know the pain and the pain does not change. Its great but again so many now wait and that hurts because all we all want to do is go to our No.1 school.

Congrats RUKidding! Great news!

Wait, I could’ve got waitlisted with my 2200 SAT? *** Yale? ***.
